File recovery software

Does anyone know of a good bit of software that can recover files from a formatted disk. A mate wanted to make a back up of a disk and not realizing it was a re-writable dvd ended up formatting it.

As far as I'm aware there is absolutely no way of recovering data off a formatted DVD + RW or DVD - RW.

Unlike hard drives, which leave a magnetic 'shadow' of previous files, even when formatted several times, When a DVD RW is formatted all data is erased. (also applies to smart cards, memory cards, pen drives etc)

Be very careful before parting with any beer vouchers though, as I have never heard of anyone having any success at recovering a rewriteable disc

I use Recover My Files for Flash recovery that does a good job. I can FTP you a fully licenced copy to try if you want?

Hi geeks that might be worth a try but the disk in question was formatted in a tv recorder i have just found out .

The software he is trying to recover was a recovery disk for a advent 5311 running vista premium which he now needs to get his laptop up and running.

Bit of a cheek but does anyone have a copy of a advent laptop recovery disk running vista premium please. So i can get his laptop up and running again we have the product key of the laptop. Cheers Alan

I can have when I get home in the morning.
My Acer shipped with Vista originally although it's since been upgraded to 7.

The important bit is a legitimate key, the disc can be anybodys. Once you've installed Windows it should be possible to visit Advent's support die for all the proper drivers.
