PC Back up software question

PC Back up software question

Postby Kevin1964 on Thu Feb 09, 2012 4:53 pm

I am running windows 7 which has a built in pc file back up system. Trouble is with windows 7 it can take up to 3 days to complete a total back up of files. Does anyone know of any alternative free back up software that can be downloaded so as to do the same job rather than my using this nonsence windows 7 back up programe. Windows 7 glitches and backing up files is one of them.

I removed the section regarding xp discs possibly because some could be offended by my apparently commiting a pottential act of piracy by asking for a replacement disc..Not the case as i only requested help for replacement discs and not the product key or code but i removed it none the less so others don't get flustered by my post...Those who have helped me on this subject i thank you and those who pm'd me on the xp topic again i thank you for your help and advice

Any help mostly greatfully recieved

You could try this..

http://www.nonags.com/freeware-simple-data-backup_517.html

Never used it myself though. For all the software I need to use http://www.nonags.com/ often has a proper freeware alternative.

Surely if you have a valid licence code you can download it from Microsoft.
I think it was Bill's girlfriend, at the time, that suggested the name but I could be wrong.

Why not buy an external disc and back it all up to that thus getting good software and not having to waste internal memory.

What i suggest is have two external drives A and B, backup stuff to A regularly then say once a month copy everything from A to the B drive then store the B drive at a relatives house.

That way if your home has fire, break in etc you dont loose all the pictures etc etc.

Thanks a bunch folks for all your input..It has given me a choice in which direction i turn in this pc back up lark. Windows 7 is notoriously slow on backing up hence there are forums on these problems which microsoft are blatently ignoring. Thats all tech issues i don't understand. I intended on backing up a vast amount of files but not sure of what file size in total.

Regarding Frenchfarmer's comment on my xp operating discs that have been badly scratched..You can't just download any operating system without having to pay for it all over again. Its not about my being tight its more about how much easier it would be for me to find some one who could copy there originals on my behalf.. xp is claimed to be old hat now but it does work well on my spare computer which isn't designed for windows 7. No point my buying new xp discs at stupid prices from microsoft if i can get copies of them but using my genuine product key.

you can download win 7 for free from microsoft, also downloaded office 10. as long as you have the key.
i found the key using a prog called produkey if you ever lose the original box.

sent a pm regarding xp

or try from the ms site

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx#searchTerm=&ProductFamilyId=140&Languages=en&PageSize=10&PageIndex=0&FileId=0

make sure you use the correct version or your key won't work, where as win 7 uses 1 disk and the key determines which version to install.

You could always just buy a Windows OS keyboard and get XP with it.
My version of XP home edition cost me about £30 then I updated it to SP3 and sorted.
