FTP with Windows 7

FTP with Windows 7

Postby Trugga on Fri Sep 10, 2010 8:23 pm

Help :?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, with with McAfee AV

In the past, on Windows XP, I've used Cute FTP to ftp files to my personal webspace, but I can't get it to work on this new PC.

Yes, I have disabled the Windows firewall
Yes, I have disable the McAfee firewall (albeit temorarily in anticipation of ftping)
Yes, I have added CuteFTP to the 2allow" list in McAfee

but each time I attempt to connect, ite reports the password is incorrect (it can't be as I've checked with the domain paperwork - and I'm sure it worked before I instaled McAfee)

Any suggestions (other than removing McAfee) ?

I'm assuming you're using the latest version? I believe 8.3.3 has been tested and verified as compatible.

That said, I prefer http://www.ftpcommander.com/ myself, mainly cos they use dangermouse for the desktop icon :D

Thanks for that...

I download, installed and the sample sites appear to work. Get a similar message though when trying to access my own site (although it dissapears off the screen pretty quick)

I think I might need to contact my host... unless anyone else has any other ideas.

Defo sounds like the problem is with the site hosting service guv. If other sites are working OK then it's unlikely to be the software

Got a shell account anywhere? If so, you could easily confirm if it were a local issue or not
