I use ccleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Make sure you do a registry back up before using any software though

Hi , I use Ccleaner and it gives you the option of backing up the registry before it deletes anything. So do most of the other registry cleaners out there. Usually one click and away you go.

As per Ghosthunters reply.
I've never had a problem, but there is always the chance that the software can remove registry entries that are still needed by your computer (you won't know untill you try a program). Make sure you keep the original backup for at least 6 months, or until you have tried every program that you installed on your computer (windows programs should be ok).
If you've never run a cleaner, you'll be surprised how much extra disk space it creates, and how much rubbish you had on your machine.
