Is my graphics card dead?

Is my graphics card dead?

Postby Drift on Sun Jun 06, 2010 3:56 pm

I have a compaq presario sr2019uk and it will not connect to the monitor, I have had the monitor working with the ainciant e crappy horrible awful laptop I am using now and it works, the desk top just says no signal, the motherboard looks like an all in one jobby so not sure if a new graphics card can be fitted if indead it is the card.

this is very urgent as this laptop is going to get launched across the room soon.

cheers guys.

if the monitor works with another unit then does sound like the graphics card in the pc

usually they are interchangable but i am not up on that particular model of Compaq

how old is the pc?

Cheers bud, one thing though, if I buy on in the morning, how would I load it? as no monitor to see what I am doing, or will it work like plug and play?

Once the card is installed it should plug and play as the machine bios should try and find the onboard 1st then the new card, there will be a few settings to sort out within windows with screen adjustment etc but once you load in the new drivers off the cd it should all be ok, if you get stuck i can always nip over and sort it for you?

Try maplin first, they may well have something cheaper than PCworld, not to mention staff that usually know what they're talking about

Further info, the black slot has in tiny writing below it, had to use a torch to read it, pci x16, so seems I need a pci card ?

I believe this is a layout of your motherboard but double check first.Three PCIOne and a PCI Express x16 graphics slots.
