The kids brand new laptop arrived to day through Home access i unpacked it and booted it up all seemed ok with it. I shut it down and put it away until they came home from school my daughter booted it up and set about running one of the education packages on it which caused the blue screen of death (it booted back up ok) she did what she wanted to do on it and the shut it back down and now the bloody thing will not boot up just a black screen the power light is on the hard drive light flashes for a few seconds then stops so it looks like it will be going back tomorrow Its a samsung R519

a friend of mine got the same pc,would not go online full stop and the software that its stuffed with was buggy,i uninstalled all the pre installed junk on it and it now runs fine,i would suggest running the restore option that restores it from the partition, or if you got a recovery disc with it use that, once you get it into windows uninstall all the education stuff and so called online security features.

took the battery out over night no joy ive since spoke to one of the IT techs who asked to remove the memory and then replace it one by one and then try rebooting it still no joy so its going back tomorrow and to Quote there IT bloke if we find you have damaged it (dropped it) you will have to pay for the repair its only been out the box a couple of hours so ive took lots of picture of it before it goes back

Them asking you to start taking the machine apart is well beyond the boundries of what they should be doing. I work in the technical centre of a well known pc retailer and that is something even we would not do. Beyond the basics of unplugging from the mains taking the battery out and holding the power button down for 30sec and thn plugging back into the mains, if this fails to the machine to post and display anything on the screen then we would be asking for to bring it back for an exchange or repair. It sounds like the mainboard has failed in someway. I suspect the BSOD error could have been a memory crash dump or a driver irql error are the most common. In the event of a memory crash dump people wrongly assume its down to memory issues, this is not always the case.
No dislpay (post) can be down to a component not seated correctly to a failed component in your case mainboard. Although i appreciate why they asked you to remove the memory its something they shouldnt have done and i wouldnt have done, it leaves yourself in the position of blame if they prove it has been opened.
Just information if any didnt know look below.
If the machine failes during the first month its reasonable for a replacement to be requested. If the same fault occurs more than twice within the manufacturers warrenty on the same equipment then it is right to assume there is a inherrent manufacturing fault for that issue and the manufacturer can be held responsible for this fault for upto 3 years althought the consumer has to prove they have given reasonable time for the fault to be rectified and have taken care of the product and the failure is not down to how the product has been used. Several faults not related to each other are treated as individual cases and do not come under this.
This warrenty is carried through the reseller you purchased the equipment from through the legal dpartments not at store level. Dont go to the store and demand it to be sorted as they will just clear you off, be polite and understand that it is not dealt with at store level and the store will not take the equipment off you because if they do the store will be accepting liabilty for the fault. The legal departments will arrange for the equipment to be uplifted and assessd and any manufacturing defacts will be rectified, anything that has been caused by improper use etc will not.
