GPS + Laptop = Decent Mapping

I found some software for the Mac called GPSY. It connects to my Garmin Etrex Legend GPS and Macbook together and the Mac is able to receive realtime GPS data from the Legend. This data can then be used to display my location on a map.

Only problem is I cant find any maps and dont want my Macbook pro being beaten to death in my Fronty.

So what Im looking for is some Windows software that will display Openstreet Maps/Topo etc and connect to my GPS so I can have nice big maps in the car when off roading. I have an old laptop knocking about ready to chuck in the fronty.

Try Quo the program is a free download and you can buy and download OS maps for around £2 each but minimum of 6.
It will connect to gps unit. Its what I have on mine.

I basically have a similar plan, to run an old laptop in my Fronty with this on, and a GPS reciever.

I have looked at that, but Im also looking for economical...i.e. free...lol

Got an old netbook and a spare macbook if needed although Id rather not, got the pc connecting to my garmin gps ok. Alls good apart form the price of the maps.

Just for our little laning area here its around a tenner, add salisbury plains and its probably another tenner. Im hoping to find something that has the whole uk maps free.

(Oh and Jim, my mrs done a little laning last night at Farley mount....she loved it!)

I discovered that you can pay £20 and use maps from other sources, £20 paid and now have maps covering the whole of UK, 1:50, 1:25, national parks, Dartmoor,Lake District, New Forest etc...Awesome!!
