Frontera 'B' statistics

Postby fuzion on Sat Mar 24, 2007 11:14 pm

I found this whilst looking for something totaly unrelated, thought it may be of use to someone

2003 FRONTERA:
THREE ENGINES CHOICE
AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

2.2 litre turbo diesel engine
maximum power output: 120PS (88kW) @ 4000rpm
maximum torque: 280 Nm (206 lb.ft) @ 2250-2500rpm
compression ratio: 18.5:1
top speed 98mph

3.2 litre V6 petrol
maximum power output: 205PS (151kW) @ 5400rpm
maximum torque: 290 Nm (214.0 lb.ft) @ 3000rpm
compression ratio: 9.4:1
top speed 116mph (114 mph in manual)

2.2 litre petrol engine
maximum power output: 136PS (100kW) @ 5200rpm
maximum torque: 200 Nm (147.5 lb.ft) @ 2500rpm
compression ratio: 10.0:1
top speed 101 mph

The 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine:
The ECOTEC direct injection intercooled turbo diesel engine, available on all models, offers weight saving, good fuel economy, responsive acceleration and easy maintenance.

Power and torque outputs are tuned for best possible engine flexibility throughout the rev range, while fuel economy is up to 18 per cent better than an equivalent indirect injection engine.

The engine boasts an array of innovative features, including contra-rotating balance shafts for noise and vibration suppression and four-valve technology actuated by a single chain-driven camshaft.

For the new 2003 model year the engine has received a power boost from 115 to 120PS with maximum torque up from 260 to 280Nm. Top speed is up to 98mph (from 96mph).

2.2 DTi
Sport Estate

comb fuel economy (man) 34.0 mpg 33.2 mpg
0-60mph (man) 13.5 secs 14.2 secs
30-50mph (4th gear) 7.4 secs 7.8secs
maximum speed 98mph 98mph
CO2 219 224

Service interval is 20,000 miles/annually.

The 3.2 litre V6 engine:
The 3.2 litre V6 petrol engine brings Frontera luxury and performance comparable with more expensive off-road vehicles. Offered in the Sport Olympus -- in response to driver requests for additional pulling power -- and in the Limited version of the Frontera Estate, it brings sports saloon-type acceleration, high-speed driving ability and better towing capabilities.

Routine maintenance costs are cut with the V. For example, the platinum spark plugs require no maintenance for 75,000 miles/eight years, and a serpentine auxiliary belt drives all auxiliary components. An auto belt tensioner maintains consistent tension and extends engine service life.

3.2 litre V6
Sport Estate
Comb fuel economy (man) 21.7 mpg 21.4 mpg
(auto) ----- 19.8 mpg
0-60mph (man) 9.6 secs 10.0 secs
30-50mph (4th) 8.6 secs 9.0 secs
max speed 114 mph 114 mph
(116 mph auto)
CO2 312 316/344 (auto)
Service interval is 20,000 miles/annually

The 2.2 litre petrol engine:
A much-refined 2.2 litre engine is the standard Frontera power pack. It brings with it excellent torque characteristics, smooth running and lower fuel consumption. Combined mode fuel consumption, at 24.8mpg, is the same in both Sport and Estate models.

2.2 16v petrol
Sport Estate
comb fuel economy 24.8 mpg 24.8 mpg
0-60 mph 12.6 secs 13.4 secs
30-50 mph 10.6 secs 11.6 secs
max speed 101 mph 101 mph
CO2 273 273
Service intervals 20,000 miles/annually

Transmissions: 4-speed auto and 5-speed manual
Computer-controlled AF series four-speed automatic transmission is available in Frontera with the 3.2 litre V6 petrol engine.

As well as driver comfort and easier handling the auto transmission lends extra benefits for the off-roader with a very low velocity torque converter and no loss of traction during transmission shifts.

The tough, heavy duty 5-speed manual transmission is used with all three engines.

Maximum braked trailer weight for the Sport 2.2 litre petrol, V6 and turbo diesel engines is 2400 kg, with Estate figures of 2800kg (except the 2.2i petrol engine which is 2600 kg).

I tried to provide a link, but it just redirects you to a search site

I think the specs for the 2.2 might be wrong (power wise).. it

1 BHP = 0.986 PS

The 2.0 16v (X20XEV) is booked at 135bhp (137ps), and the 2.2 is normally booked at 145bhp (147ps)..
Currently on Frontera No.3..
ES9000's, 3" Suspension lift, Kumho 834 MT's.

19.8 MPG for a V6!!!! I got nowhere near that unless i was on a motorway run!!!!

Round town commuting it was always less that 15 MPG.... and thats with a feather for a right foot..... If ever the lead shoe came out, well the trip computer just kept readin 7.7MPG all the time!!!!!

But... having said that... she was fast... and Yes i wil be getting another one!!! :D

That sounds more like it. I know with these modern engines and synentic oils 20k is not unheard of, just still doesnt sit right with me somehow!

Remember the stats were nabbed from General Motors, so they may be a bit generous

Do those top speeds seem a bit low to anyone else? I've done well over 101 in my 2.2i petrol.

Are you serious? I've had mine for over 2 years now, and these figures are pretty consistent:
32mpg at 60mph on the motorway.
27mpg cross country (over the Beacons) to mid/North Wales (190 miles)
17mpg returning with a large horse trailer on the back!
22mpg round town.

Think you had something wrong with yours...

I think mine must be a V12 8ltr (actually a 2.2i petrol).
I am lucky to be getting 15 mpg
