Frontera B dash speedo, rev counter.. doesn't work

Postby boraciner on Wed Jul 12, 2017 12:22 pm

Hi everyone my frontera B 2.2 dti sport has a very interesting problem
"dash light, speedo, rev counter and petrol gauge have stopped working on the dashboard. The indicators work but there are no lights on the dashboard. The warning light of open boot is on all the time although it`s closed. Can anyone help?"

I surfed many web pages about this problem there are two suggessions :
1-) Soldering all connector pins on the pcb board
2-) Resetting road trip counter.

I have done these options but it still works or sometimes doesn't work. When I turned on light switch starts to work but it is not a solution for everytime.

Do you have any idea?

Most likely the solder on the pcb. Happens a bit on the B series now they are getting older. If you turn the lights on and it works, that is a pretty conclusive indication as well.

Either a new dash cluster or repair job.

Greg may have something:

I'm from Turkey and Paypal is forbidden since last 2 years :(
I can only buy from aliexpress with creditcard :(

and

Already read that topic soldering all connection ways on pcb looked like a really big job but we can try it for a last chance...
Any other idea?

There is a white socket which is connected directly to the board.. (second one from right)

the pin mapping is like that XXXXXX | XXXX 6pins+4pins

then when you turn on parking lamps... it was working right?

I write all the pin voltages when it is turned on and off . the difference is in "O" pin of XXXXXX | XXOX ( second from right)
it was switching from 0V and 13.6 V then I found a stable 13.6V any other place which is here "O" of XOXXXX | XXXX

Then if you connect directly 123456 | 78910

2 ---> to 9

then parking buzzer is making sound like you open parking lamp because the supplied voltage is reversing. Then you should use a diode!

cut the cable of 9 pin
Cable 9 ------>| (diode) ---------> connection with cable of pin 2 >--------> connection with remaining cable 9 >------> White socket ---------> Board

it is working now always if you turn on parking lamps or not...

Happy weekend to everyone...

so do you connect the diode to cable 2 then to cable 9 going to the clock and leave cable 9 coming from the harness connected to nothing ? or is the diode going inline on cable 9 then connect cable 2 to the non voltage return side ? .i put diode in line and in theory the voltage should not return down cable 9. ie put voltage to clocks making rev counter work and dash lights on but not the parking lights on as soon as you put ignition on . am i missing something ? any diagram with current direction for diode .

Yeah that's the way I did it but the parking lights come on with ignition. Only difference is it was no 6 cable it took the 12v from as no 2 had no voltage. Wish they did Haynes manual for electrical diagrams. Thanks will have to figure things out. Is cable no 9 supply to parking lights or just cluster lights.

I'm not sure but I guess that 9 can supply parking lights. Diode should block that reverse current. Try to change the diode or if you have no other diodes completely cut the cable 9 and connect it directly to 12V . Then will you see parking lights on with ignition?
