It's official the desert in Mansfield will officially be opening a 4x4 off road track, along with separate quad bike track. The opening date will be the 14th oct Sunday. There will shortly be a website up www.thedesertoffroad.co.uk
This looks promising.

That works bud, ta. But no pics or maps of the site??? Do they want people to visit?? :? And it so close it would be good as Black Hills is shut at the moment and Holymoorside being a little on the small side and more like a pond most of the time, could do quite well.

The desert is a massive place mate there was a lot of illegal 4x4 and bikes going there for years and now they've made something of it.its£25. For the day but I expect their first day will be busy as there are 4x4, quad and bike tracks so lots to see,.I've booked online as it reserves a space for you but you don't pay until you arrive.
