For those with nothing planned for the weekend and fancy watching some serious 4x4's race around the forest, you might like to check out http://www.marches4x4.com/bccc.html

Spectator information can be found here: http://www.marches4x4.com/spectator.html

In the evenings, I'll be up near the service area (by the beer tent no doubt) - fee free to pop up and say hello.

What a cracking opener to the 2011 season that was, with 25 out of the 30+ competitors out for a play.

The venue was to be Myherin forest, affectionately known in rallying circles as "Pikes Peack" (due to the switch back climb up the mountain). The weather was to be dry all weekend, although the mountain mist would accompany us for both nights.

Having arrived late afternoon, signed on, pitched tent, cooked and ate eveing meal and faffed about, it was getting dark - a perfect opportunity to go and test the new camera's flash capability... A I wandered back to my tent from the forest, I noticed a vehilce parked next to mine... on noticing me, they drove down to greet me.

"Have you got a long tow rope ?)

Er, yes, why ?

"One of the other marshals is stuck in the forest"

Once in the car and the MSA radio switched on, I hear the chatter about a marshal taking a wrong turn... he'd driven down a forestry track (not yur regular foresty track, but a digger track) and could not get back out. It was now pitch black.

After a 2.3 mile drive through the forest, we came to the spot - A Nissan X-Trail on road tyres

Long story short - shackle pin would not go through his recovery eye, so resulted in wincing him out with the Sport.

Next morning, I take a drive out to my appointed location. On the way I come accross a walker (a partner of one of the competitors) and give her a lift to the start - I carry on. My journey along the stage takes me to the location of last nights recovery - it's tight, twisty and extremly down hill. In 1 Lo I make it down safely - it opens up and at the bottom of the hill is my appointed location.

I have a walk around, take a few photos of a stram and ruind building, then return to the car to brew up. It's not long before that joung lady turns up again - holding her hand (she had fallen, cut her hand and it was swelling up) - A shout on the radio would intercept the paramedics who would be traversing the stage as part of the reccy.

At 10:30 the the first car starts out on 2 days of competiton.

A little video, and no, I have not speeded it up:

An absolutely cracking weekend away.
