My 'little bit of metal is mangled too so now going to have another look. However there is about 1" slack in the prop so I have a feeling my diff is on the way out, the oil in it is like black sludge so for now its topped up with new diff oil. Also does anyone know how much play there should be in UJ's as my rear prop has about 2-3mm play in the joint, could it be knackered?? Re: Brachunky appeal dayThe bit of metal is not touching my prop or anywhere near it unfortunately!!

Re: Brachunky appeal dayJust sounds like a UJ Rick, hours job, got friday to sort it, you know you want to
Re: Brachunky appeal day
the play in the prop.....d'you mean when you try to turn it?, because thats not really a problem,,,,,,your problem will be the movement in the U/J....there shouldn't be any at all in such a joint. As long as the joint is held in place with circlips, you can replace it easily, unfortunately some where "peened" over and as such can't be replaced and you have to have a new shaft. If the diff was quiet when driving before, just drain out the old oil and refill with new. What have I told you about Thinking Erroll??
Re: Brachunky appeal dayUnfortunately the prop is one of those that the UJ's are fitted to and cannot be removed, there is play in the rear UJ and alot of play in the Diff and Transfer box itsself.
I am going to try putting a secondhand prop on first then seeing what happens. The stupid B series diff does not have a drain plug either, just a fill one, so I will have to remove the back plate to drop it wich means ordering a new seal from VX as well which I know wont be cheap!!! All of this wont be done till after this weekend so I am well peeved about not going cause Ive been looking forward to it for ages!! Also Mel and Jane wont be coming as they have family probs at home with elderly relatives. I will be making a donation to the appeal, where does it need to go to??!! Please enjoy yourselves this weekend I have no doubt it will be awesome!! Make sure you get stuck a few more times for me and lots of pics and vids of us towing Surfs out too!!! Once again sorry for the inconvenience Rick Lianne Jane and Mel. 2001 Discovery ES TD5 (EGR Bypass, De CAT, General Grabber AT2 Rubber) 2000 Fronty SWB RS 2.2 Petrol (LSD Model)......RIP Insa Turbo Sahara Boots Maycom EM-27 CB SS100HF Safari Snorkel 3" Lift (LA Supertrux) 200BHP MGF and '04 MGZR 160

Re: Brachunky appeal dayGlad your back safe Shaun, had a cracking day today in great company. John should be home by now fingers crossed. Just a shame we were let down by one fog member who couldn't be bothered to say he was not gonna make it. Took up 2 spaces others could of had.
Re: Brachunky appeal day
its not i couldnt be bothered but we've had some bad news and i couldn't make it sorry
Re: Brachunky appeal daycan i just say a big thanks to everyone who helped organise today, it was brilliant. Just got home safe and sound and no damage at all that i can see, and the starting problem seems to hjave gone
I know Biohazzard said he felt guilty because a few frontys got poorly, but rest assured, it was not down to severe lanes or getting people to do things they didnt want to. All the problems with the vehicles were purely mechanical which could have just as easily have happened on the A1, (fan not working and loss of oil pressure-Gibbo, popped rad and puncture-john, alternator-jim). The byways were brilliant with pass outs for standard trucks at the technical areas or obstacles. I've never been to the plains but will definately go back The look on little Callum's face when two tanks came screaming past is something i will remember forever. Both me and Zebadee had a great time and I just heard from phil, he got home safe and we recon it could be the thermostat that causing the probs. It's a bit late for it now so i will upload piccies and vids tomorrow. Oh and not forgetting, we raised a nice little ammount of cash for Brandon's lift. An extra special thanks to the surf boys who, even though it is nothing to do with their club still contributed generously SIZE DOES MATTER!! Re: Brachunky appeal dayHi all made it home ok with out the use of a tow truck
As ian said thanks to all who was involved and turned up such a cracking day. As for my motor we belive the thermostat is the problem not opening so engine not cooling and cooking the oil hense no pressure. Big thanks to mark sledge and i think neil (hope thats your name too many to remember in short space) for all the help and bits too keep the fronty going. The oil pressure been playing up for a week now just got alot worse today as haven't been driving it for as long as that (managed 270 miles today) Will have a quick look at the vids now but prob wont post them till 2mw. Hope everyone else has made it home ok and thanks again and hope to see you all again soon Cheers Phil
Gone over to the dark side with my green oval.
