S.E woods outing

Postby jmc on Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:07 pm

Last saturday I finally managed to make it to gregster and sally's woods.
What a great time I had.
The woods are down a track and when I got to the clearing there I confessed to greg that this was the most I had been off road.
There was a moments utter silence while he digested this but like the true gent that he is made no comment but started to introduce me to people.
Fudge and wilberforce were introduced to me and after looking around fudges swb and taking possesion of a pair of camacs he had bought down for me, wilberforce asked me whether I would like a ride in his 2.8 swb.
I said " yes please" Fudge and Pete climbed in the back, putting me in the front and I found out later it was also Petes first time out.
So this was my first proper off road experience apart from the occasional track and snow.
I was amazed at what wilberforce and the frontera could do,and couldn't quite believe what terrain the frontera was able to negotiate.
Barely had I recovered from this ride when greg took the same passengers out in his 2.4.
A different experience in a long wheelbase but again was amazed at what greg could get it around..and up .. and down ...and tilting sideways...this all on extremely old worn mud tyres.
Reluctantly I felt that I had to go early back home as my wife was having to get two of our children to revise and had had enough the day before.
It was good to be able to meet some of you and put faces to names
It was a shame that I couldn't stay longer as there were several others there with their fronteras.
Next time if its not too wet I would love to try mine out on some easy bits.
Thanks to greg ands sally and to wilberforce and fudge.

Pop down for a picnic JMC. Its only a day out and you get to have a bimble around the woods. I took my old Trooper out in the thick mud on A/T's and was fine. It was only in the snow and ice I got into trouble and dented it

Well, I have to say that that was the best weekend I've had in ages, and what better an introduction to off roading and the world of Frontera's than meeting you fantastic people! Thanks to Sally & Greg for hosting it, to fudge for introducing me and to everyone for making it so damn fantastic and fun!

I'm now seriously hunting for a fronty as my lil 2x4 is suffering noisily after my short adventure in the woods! Thanks for capturing that, stretch! Will edit this to add photos when I can get online not on my phone :oh yer:

Thanks everyone and can't wait to see you all again soon :D

just wanted to say a huge thank you to sally- once again she worked tirelessly! came down to some slightly(?) hungover peeps, cooked, washed up more than a few times and kept the place tidy for everyone - great gal and one very lucky greg and us.....

think we all need to give her a rest at next weekender and treat her like a queen :)
