Hi foggers

Please be advised that on Sunday 5th June 2011 we will doing a Workday at the Woods in preparation for the weekender...

We will meet at 9am at Notcutts garden centre just off j7 m20 (head towards maidstone from j7 and its immediately on your left...)
(the meet point may be changed to the woods, if everyone attending has been before and knows where they are going...I will advise)

Please bring with you any tools that you have that may be useful for clearing trees, digging and lunch/drinks as nowhere very near to get grub when you have worked up an appetite.

Dont worry if you cant bring your fronty, we find somewhere to park the lesser cars if not 4x4's so you can still join in if you want to.

Probably not a good idea to bring dogs to the work days, I am just concerned about them running around with chainsaws going and 4x4's moving around,
and children must be kept on a tight leash and near parents at all times as we don't want any accidents.

Workdays will not be capped at the moment as loads to do, and we will be grafting as a team to get work done...this will involve some delegation of tasks within the team to ensure we are both productive and safe...
Use of chainsaws will be restricted to logging or pruning areas as instructed...I don't want to risk accidents with inexperienced members felling trees and anything we cut has to be considered so as to retain the character of the woods and to represent best productivity.
This is gonna be hard graft, I can be a bit of a slave driver

Please note this is NOT a playday, and although some 4x4 driving/working will probably be involved during the day, we are there to work to get the site ready for the next meet...

Anyone "outworked" by Sally will be on toilet emptying duty at the next weekender!!!!

Your safety is paramount, I must insist that anyone attending ensures that they stay a safe distance from any felling or chainsaw operations or moving vehicles...
Falling debris can be unpredictable in its direction or distance of fall, so please be very careful...

Please add your name to the list if you are coming to help with this, and thanks for your support guys...we are really getting there with the site now!!!

See you soon

Well we are home, in the warm and dry.

It was a good day, quite wet and windy but we now have a LARGE pile of wood for the fire, with intermediate wood too , so it will be a good bonfire at the weekender.

Pete was put in charge of the dumper truck after Lloyd went home for dinner, Greg had the chainsaw :axe: and I lopped the overhanging stuff and helped Pete load the truck with the wood.

Greg has some photos which I am sure he will post soon.

Wotcha Foggers....

Today was a most productive workday, we got loads done...and the woods are looking good for the Weekender in a few weeks...

Met up with Retro Pete at the workshop and grabbed the noisy tools and the 2.4 BGL...

Sally enjoyed driving the BGL down to the woods...it is gem

Then Lloyd arrived as we were finishing the first brew of the day...promptly shooting off to get a suitably helpful wood gathering device... 8)

We started in the Yew tree wood adjacent to the clearing, tidying, pruning, trimming and clearing all the fallen and previously cut stuff...looks pukka now...

Then on down the stump garden area clearing as we went...

Pete and I then dived up the hill to prep the fallen trees and previously felled stuff for dumper extraction to the fire pile, Sally went off on proper pruning mission, trimming stuff back so the shinys dont get scratched...she kinda did the whole woods on her tod while Pete and I cleared the lower banks with Lloyd doing some expert stuff up the hills on the dumper.

Then we regrouped and Pete took over dumper duties as Lloyd was off out with Rose, and we cleared the remainder of the first 2/3's of the bottom area of woods...

Was bleeding hard work...did a gallon of petrol between 2 chainsaws, was on a proper mission...All of us got got my spicky twigs, Pete sporting the best bleeder by far...and then got slowly soaked as the showers turned heavier such that the overhead canopy of trees couldnt stop it coming through.

Great day though...loads done and the woods are looking great for a good tidyup...just got another 15acres to do at some point, but this can be done over various workdays in future and evenings after work when I can get up there with Sally...

Some pickies that were taken...

The workday crews trucks in the clearing...

Big big thanks to Pete and Lloyd for their help today...its was really hardwork but rewarding when you look at how the lower woods now look...

Also thanks to Sally who as always grafted like a fella, and kept us hydrated!

Congrats are in order to, as Lloyd and Rose (the landowners daughter) have set a date to get married on May 12th next year. :drink: :drink: :drink:

Thanks for looking Foggers....and get your name down for the weekender below and help burn the couple of twigs we collected today!
