Hiya foggers....

Stick your name down on the list if you are up for a days exploring some of the Southeasts ww2 and coldwar's bunkers/tunnels and stuff...

Date TBA depending on response...

Sites to include....
2 Coldwar bunkers near stockbury/rainham...
1 ww2 bunker near hollingbourne...
1 bunker near TBW that pedro knows about...
Possible the Shorts tunnels at rochester, if still open...
The big gun battery at nr in between higham and gravesend...
A load of sites on sheppey if we get over there (bring your passports foggers...or we wont be let OFF the island!)
Maybe down to wanston farm gun battery at folkestone(were the big guns that shelled france used to be..), and the forts on the western heights at dover (Iknow a way in!!)
and many more...

Please post your names on to the list...(copy and paste as usual guys)

and also post details of anything else that might be worth a gander on our trip....

This trip is not gonna be laning really...as to get a good few sites in will mean covering some miles...and hence probably not much byways as too slow...
Might even be an idea to use normal cars...and then share, as some of these sites will have no or limited parking, certainly not room for half a dozen 4x4's...
You thoughts guys on this....would be good to take 4x4's though.... :oh yer:

And it was looking so promising up to the "naked" part, lol. I get the vague feeling Sal's really not overly keen on historic buildings then, lol..

I'll go with the idea of car sharing as we could rack up a 100+ miles and I know some of the sites we will have to park up and walk to so the fewer vehicles the better (mine may only have 2 seats though as the Fronty needs some surgery before the picnic so I'll have the StreetKa)

Any ideas on dates? I'd be good any weekend day given a couple of days notice.

I'm up for that - subject to date - can't do weekend 17th-18th October or Sat 14th November.
I'll take some piccies of the shelters near me so you can see what they are about.
Don't mind taking my Kia Sedona which can carry 7 adults.

Hi guys...

This has not been forgotten....but might be an idea to thrash dates out when we are all together at the Se meet on the 25th oct...

We have workday this weekend and the meet a fortnight after that, so realistically I think it will need to be after that...

I am kind of thinking maybe a fortnight after the meet provisionally, that way we have something doing every 2 weeks, (day out, workday, picnic)...

but let me know your thoughts guys and we will finalize a plan on the 25th...

Walked the dogs up near the bunkers this morning and took a few piccies to show what lies therein
Image
This piccie was taken with the camera held through the bars in pitch black - only light is from flash light on camera
Image
These are the bars that are in place to stop adventurers going down into the lower depths. Mind you if your thin and brave enough you can squeeze through. Been told it's full of water when you get down there.
Image
I venturered into 2 of these this morning. I thought there are 4 bunkers in total but I only found 2.
Image
This is the entrance to the second bunker.
Image
It's pitch black when inside these bunkers.
Image
Image
Image
As you can see, the local div's have left their mark. On both bunkers, you enter then turn at a 90 degree angle before approaching the stair-way entrance. That's why they are in complete darkness.
Image
What you see in these piccies is about it, bunkers, go into bunkers, turn the corner to stairway entrance blocked off by bars.

This is the first picture that can't be viewed in the last reply.
Didn't have a torch with me, so the only light is from that of the flash unit on the camera.
Can admin edit the reply and copy this picture in it's correct place?
JUST SORTED IT MYSELF SO NO NEED FOR ADMIN TO AMEND.

Watcha Greg
Be aware though mate, that is it, literally see the bunkers, go into opening and get as far as the iron railings.
Would be better if peps could get pass the railings and go down in them - trouble is mate, not being rude, but I think that's a no no for you and me.

If you look at the first lot of pictures, 3rd picture (4th and 5th pic due to amendment) down showing the railings - see that gap just left of centre at the top with the railing missing, that's what you have got to squeeze through and then avoid rolling to the bottom. Don't know the distance for sure, but told it's a long way down.
Cos I've just amended the reply with the first lot of pics - you need to view the 4th and 5th pics. Getting to grips with this IT malarkey now.
