The end of an era....The WOODS....Maidstone...

Postby gregster on Sun Mar 26, 2017 10:43 pm

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that this project is coming to an end.

We started in 2009 and have enjoyed the use of the woods since then, having some great times together in the process.

John and Mary who own the woods, need to now use it for something else, not because we have done anything wrong, simply because of their retirement plans mean using the woods for something else, and I, and I am sure everyone else who has been involved in this over the years will be grateful for the opportunity they have given us down there.

So sadly its the end of an era, we have made great friends in doing this over the years and had some brilliant times together, but the end is nigh...

But what we need to do is make the most of what we have in the meantime...
and we will be hosting the normal Sunday meets in April, May, June and July,
culminating with a weekender over the August BH weekend 25th-28th August, with a special celebration closing party on the saturday night...(I will start event posts for all these very shorty)

I dont know what the future will bring, whether we will find another site and do it all again, or maybe do an annual "Woods-reloaded" at another venue...We will see...Any suggestions or leads on possible venues will be appreciated...

And this just leaves it really for me and Sally to say a huge thankyou...
To everyone who has been a part of this...
To everyone who has helped to make it what it is...
To everyone for respecting the venue and our values such that we could carry on for 7 years
And to John and Mary for entrusting us to do this....

Thank you ALL....

Sorry to hear that Greg, I've got very fond memories of the early days down there, with you, Pete, Steve and Kel to name only a few.
My best wishes to John & Mary though hope they enjoy their retirement.

I'm going to try mate.
I start a new Job on the 17th of April and it involves working shifts again so it gives me a bit more flexibility but won't know what shift pattern / team I'll actually be on until I've done the first Four weeks of the initial training so have to wait and see at the minute sadly......

Just sent you a friend request, hopefully I can get this beast at a place where I'm happy to take it out into the wilds (getting bored going up and down violet lane) before the woods go and before I have my third round of back surgery.
Be nice to put some faces to the names who have helped me getting his thing from a 3 mile a day commute in Buckhurst Hill to its new life out in the sticks across fields and rivers daily...lol.

It's at the bottom of my road.
You just have to pick the right time to go through, not after it's been raining for three days as the discovery and freelander group found out the other week when my daughter came home on her bike to tell me they had got stuck in the water and the recovery vehicles were there, and not at the end of summer when there isn't a lot of water lying about.
