Find them useful. But it's all a matter of preference. Yep, the mess tent would be great mate.. just incase it rains there is a gathering point for everyone. Is it easy to put up ?? (ie could it be moved to become a marshalling point during the P&P day??) Yep, fold up chairs are probably a must! (good point that) www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
the mess tent is easy to put up with 4 people, 2 is possible but a bit dodgy coz if the frame twists and bends it'll be knackered.

Only thing i can think of adding to the list is Lunch for saturday.
On the subject of tow ropes, i havent got any. I will get some in the week. What sort of spec should i be looking for?? Am well looking forward to this................. I think i read earlier in the thread that the saturday meeting time will be 7.30 or something?? If it is I will be leaving on the M20 at 6am, will hit the M25 at 6.30 or so. Suggest a meet at 6.30 at Clacket Lane service for anyone coming my way????? Anyone up for that? Sam 1997(P) 2.0 Sport S SWB - Running great but dented in a freak trailer incident

Oh yeah..
Thassit.. Ummm, that's a tad too early for a Saturday morning isn't it I was going to say 0930 might be a little more reasonable.. And I've found out tonight that the Sainsbury's in Alton is open until 2200 hours on a Saturday night, so we've got no worries there. I'll post the locations for meet up, and the location of the P&P site with OS map pictures tomorrow. I'll also get proper references for everything with multimap etc. Cheers. www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
Your spot on there I was thinking it was a tad early . 0930 sounds a lot more sociable!! So anyone that wants to meet at clackets would now be 0815........ Sam 1997(P) 2.0 Sport S SWB - Running great but dented in a freak trailer incident

Right,
Due to the image size restrictions on the forum I have left these at the resolution and size that they were taken at... And as such there is a link to my hosting site. Meeting place showing M3 junction for BASINGSTOKE (note the little red marker!!) Close up version of the above SATURDAY MEETING POINT MultiMap of the same above (TEXACO GARAGE, GROVE ROAD, Basingstoke P&P site showing the A32 (NE bound road) and the A272 (EW bound road) junctions below it. See next pic P&P site zoomed in from last picture, shows West Meon Hut at Jnctn A32/A272 (nearest landmark) Shows zoomed pic of above showing actual location The last pic here shows the actual P&P site location. As you turn OFF the A32 you will pass through what was an OLD OVERHEAD RAILWAY BRIDGE. (which has since collapsed and only has the sides). Then you will see the entrance about 100metres past that bridge on the right side of the road. The P&P site is: SU67675 29380 if that helps you and your using OS maps. The SATURDAY meeting point as shown at the top of the list is at the REAR of the TEXACO garage. There is a sizable carpark there if we park sensibly. It also gives you an opportunity to fill up the tank/oil/water etc before setting off. It will be the last opportunity to fill up with fuel etc until ate afternoon/evening. Thus why I chose there. If everyone comes with a pre-prepared lunch then it will make the day go smoother, or you can buy some sandwiches from the garage before setting off. Can a couple of people please bring some thermos flasks with tea & coffee??? (Cos I don't have the ability to do that at present)... Perhaps everyone needs to bring their own drinking mugs and plates/utensils etc for the weekend.. And as said before your own water supply would be appreciated. Any questions? By the way I will PM each of you with my mobile number. That way if you are having problems with finding us or during the day you need to contact me you will be able to do so. Trogladite. Plan on turning up mate. Looks like you'll be in for the weekend. Any other questions before I move on? www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
I'll make with some flasks of hat water, and bring some teabags n coffee n stuffs..
Better that way than actually making the stuff... Also, no worries for finding the meet-point... I know basingstoke well enough from the white-arrow days.. Jim...

I've only got one flask, but will bring it full of hot water.
I cant find any tow ropes................... Biggest i can find in a shop is 3.5 tonne rated. Anyone know where i can get some. Dont trust ebay to deliver in time. Sam 1997(P) 2.0 Sport S SWB - Running great but dented in a freak trailer incident

Grab the 3.5 T one, it's a start at least..
I'm sure that there probably won't be a shortage! OK, IMPORTANT STUFF: If you don't want to pack a lunch.. I've got a NICE little pub in the countryside where we can go for lunch. The idea is to stagger our arrival (which is fine) and we will arrive 20-30 minutes apart in our 3 groups of 4 vehicles. The menu for lunch is £6 lunch meals.. We can have any of the following, but I'd like to narrow it down as much as possible due to the numbers of people being unknown and the pub having to pre-prepare for us, ie order in all the stuff to be cooked up, and they will be putting it on the tables as we arrive in our groups (the lane marshalls will be ringing the pub at a certain point on the lanes so that your arrival time will be pre-destined.) Anywho, the menu is: AVAILABLE HERE But consists of the following:
The location is the Star Inn in Bentworth.. There is NOT a huge amount of parking, so it will be group by group where possible.. We will have a short time to eat/use the toilet etc, then move on before the next group arrives! What I would like to suggest is that if everyone is happy we limit the menu to either of the following: Bubble & Squeak Gammon & Chips Steak & Kidney pie chip &peas That way the pub is slightly more prepared... If orders are taken by lane marshalls at the start of the day then the pub will know what they need to have ready 20 minutes before we arrive in our groups. Groups will be numbered out as follows: A B C Each group will then have a marshall designated as 1, thus A1, B1, C1. Then each vehicle will be numbered off afterwards.. A2, 3, 4. B2, 3, 4, etc. Thus you will be allocated a number in the morning... This is the number you will have for your dinner, and also for use on CB radio etc.. I will provide each of you with a sticker in the morning which will go on the outside of your windscreen (and also so that you can see it one for the inside), this way your vehicle is instantly identifiable (it's only a sticker for an envelope label, nothing flash). I will now set up a poll to see what foods people want to eat for lunch and whether or not people are happy with a £6 menu!! Please vote ONLY if you are attending for laning! Cheers. www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
Just a thought, Im bringing my 5 year old son.
Is he welcome in the pub? If not I will be perfectly happy with a sandwich in a box I know some pubs have strange family policies.......... Sam 1997(P) 2.0 Sport S SWB - Running great but dented in a freak trailer incident

I don't think there is a problem with that mate.. They understand that there is a lot of us coming through. They wouldn't want to turn you down because of the money we as a group will take to them!! But if your not sure, ring and ask mate.. But there certainly were no signs up saying you couldn't have kids there. They do have a restaurant section, so it's not like he's sitting at the bar, so no, I don't think there is a problem at all. No worries mate. Glad you had fun and learnt some stuff..
Should be a good day next week as you said, please feel free to share your experiences today with people so they know what they will experience next week.. IE: good and bad bits of the afternoons laning we did today. Feel free to do it in a new thread though (might be best), so as to discuss what people will see and not confuse this mega long thread any more. www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
