ADVENTURE OVERLAND, Stratford Racecourse 28-29 Sept 2013

Hello there! BIG changes for AO`13. Hope you don’t mind me posting the following double announcement in here, only it’s to everybody’s benefit. Ta!

As always, the club is welcome to have a free promotional pitch at the show – email if interested.

CHANGE OF VENUE

ADVENTURE OVERLAND … The National 4x4, Bike & Trekking Travel Show

has moved to:-

Stratford Racecourse
Stratford-upon-Avon
Warwickshire
CV37 9SE

28-29 September 2013

http://www.adventureoverlandshow.com

Having outgrown Whilton Mill Karting Centre, Northants before the inaugural show was even over, the intention was to move next year’s event to Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire.

However, due to other event organisers having recently moved their dates for 2013, Bruntingthorpe is no longer able to accommodate us – hence the permanent move to Stratford Racecourse.

By way of an added bonus …

We are also delighted to announce that Stratford Racecourse has been secured for the next 5 years … and well beyond should we wish! This allows ADVENTURE OVERLAND to not only become a fixed date within the event calendar, but with acres of space available, also grow year on year at it’s new home.

Don’t forget – it’s 50% off camping/day admission advance-booking for AO`13 before end of this month, then 40% off in February … and so on throughout the year.

++++++++++++++++++++++

AO`13 CLUB/GROUP DISCOUNT SCHEME

Great news …

To allow clubs and groups to book ‘en masse’ at sensible rates for ADVENTURE OVERLAND, a Club/Group Discount Scheme has been introduced for the show.

Call it a ‘Late Summer Camping Weekend’ or even a ‘Club Rally’ if you like. The fact is, in Stratford Racecourse we have hired a prestigious, centrally-located venue with excellent facilities. The grass campsite is massive, meaning that all the members can camp together, plus you just happen to have the bonus of a major bike/4x4 event directly alongside to visit over the weekend … and all at down-to-earth prices!!!

NOTE: The latest date for booking this scheme is 1st September 2013. All clubs and groups are eligible for this scheme whether they have booked a Club Display Stand at AO`13 or not. This is a separate ‘stand alone scheme’ so can’t be run in conjunction with any other promotion or advance-booking discount scheme. Even for a single adult, this scheme still works out cheaper than the standard rate!

Standard Weekend Family Package at AO`13:-

Up to 3 nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) for 1 camping unit (caravan or tent)
@ £10 per night = £20

Day Admission for up to 2 adults Sat & Sun (children under 16 years free)
@ £12 per adult, per day = £48

TOTAL: £68

Block booking fees for the AO`13 Club/Group Discount Scheme:-

5 camping units (and over) Weekend Family Packages @ £40
10 camping units (and over) Weekend Family Packages @ £35
15 camping units (and over) Weekend Family Packages @ £30
20 camping units (and over) Weekend Family Packages @ £25

Like I say, everyone wins!

Haven't been around for a while, so here's an update …

New attractions at Stratford Racecourse are being added all the time, these are the latest:-

BUSHCRAFT ACTIVITIES AREA sponsored by “Woodland Ways”
(everything from fire-lighting to preparing road kill for the pot)

BUSH MECHANICS sponsored by “Frogs Island 4x4”
(learn the skills to keep your vehicle going when on the road, or more importantly - off it!)

EXPEDITION FIRST AID DEMOS sponsored by “Training Expertise Ltd.”
(knowing what do do when confronted by injuries in extreme situations can quite literally be a ‘life-saver’)

BIKE ADVENTURE ZONE sponsored by “Overland Magazine”
(last year motorcycle traders requested they have a specialised area to call their own, well here it is)

THE ‘BEEN THERE, DONE IT’ SEMINAR SESSIONS
(featuring guest speakers passing on their adventure travel experiences with bikes and 4x4 vehicles)

VEHICLE DISPLAY AREA
(comprising expedition trucks & all-wheel-drive campers)

NAVIGATION KNOWHOW
(navigational tips & tuition – from basic roamers, compasses and mapping to the latest electronic GPS software)

CAMPER CONVERSION CORNER
(featuring DIY and professional conversions, plus fixtures and fittings)

Still room for a FOG display, good excuse for a major 'end of season' party!!!

As it happens, I've just added a clever little feature to the event website whereby you can view the latest plan of the Showground, Trade Stands, Club/Forum & Vehicle Displays, Attractions, etc. It’s still filling all the while of course, but now you can see exactly where the Club Display Stands will be located.

Just log on to http://www.adventureoverlandshow.com then click on the Trade + Who’s Attending AO`13 tab in the menu top of the page, scroll down and click on the AO`13 SITE PLAN button to open up a PDF file of the Showground. Simples!

Myself, Colley and Igotababyfrontera went last year.
Was a good show different to the norm, lectures from people who have been there done that and got the t shirt.
Also the overlanders showing off there vehicles what a friendly bunch of people all with a great sence of adventure.

The usual and not so usual trade stands we're interesting and the camaraderie at night on the campsite was really good groups sitting around camp fires chatting and drinking all good humoured and mindful of the other campers.

We had a little run in with security as our campfire got a little unwildly but rather than taking the aggressive route just asked us to be careful and to make sure we doused it when retiring.

All in all a great show, if you only go to one show this year make it this one.

I will be attending with the Landy Rally 2011 team again this year but it would be good to meet up with some other Frontera owners, it's more fun laughing at the Land Rover owners enmass (you paid how much for that lol)
I would prefer a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.
Seek not excess, God hates he who roams !

Thanks for the kind words. You see, me being an old git, I remember when shows used to have a great atmosphere and as you say, the evenings did produce a camaraderie within the campsite that was 'special'. That's exactly what I wanted to get back to when setting up AO`12 ... reckon I went some way to achieving that. However, that's only half the story.

Did you notice the difference between the overland/adventure travel type people and the regular mud-pluggers? Not running down those who want to play in the mud - strewth, done enough of that in my time - it's just that you don't need it in the middle of a campsite! Seen it before when I used to run the National 4x4 Show, some idiot doing doughnuts and churning up the lush grass; great! That just wasn't happening at ADVENTURE OVERLAND last year. In fact the only problem we had all weekend was when the DJ got drunk Saturday night and starting mouthing off. He's now been gagged and hog-tied, so no repeat this year I assure you.

No, all in all a great event (although I say so myself) and for that I have to thank whose who attended. They brought back memories of 'the old days', and created new ones of their own ... which pretty much sums up the entire weekend. Delighted to have you back wideformat!!!
