Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)Right you lot TRF are organising a protest for the 25th November in the peak district this the second protest of three. It is a peaceful protest consisting of car park occupation then a slow drive around the peaks causing disruption to traffic. It is a portest against the closure of lanes and TRO's been put in place for no reason only to keep the locals happy. So if you want to show your support and stick you name down and give more info closer to the date.
If your coming along we are meeting here at 9.45 for a 9.55 start http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=41 ... 70525&lm=0 Picnic area of the A6 just outside Ashford in the Water. But looking at interest on here don't look like anyone else is bothered bar me,craig and brachuncky So come on get yourselves there Last edited by john boy on Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Peak protestI might be up for this, but will have to confirm closer to the date
Peak District Lane Closure Protest 25th NovemberAs you may or may not know the Peak Park Authority are currently looking at the possibility of placing permanent TROs on 24 of greenlanes within the Park. They're starting with two of the most iconic in the Park, Stanage Edge and The Roych.
They are currently taking consultations on these, you'll find the details here - http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/looking-after/consultations/tro-consultation-2012 I would ask that as many people as possible send an email to make your objection. The closing date is the 2nd November. To date there have been 2 protests, the first by the Trail Riders Federation, and the 2nd under the umbrella of the Peak District Vehicle User Group. I attended the latest which was on Sunday just gone. There were over 50 4x4s there, and even more trail bikes. We spent several hours driving the areas we would normally go at the speeds we would lane at, but on normal roads. As you can imagine this caused a few traffic problems and really showed the level of feeling against these proposed closures. It even made it onto the BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-20005880 The next protest is to take place on the 25th November, and it would be great to get even more people out next time. So I'm asking any Foggers who enjoy laning in the Peaks, and would like to continue to in the future to come along. Exact plans for the day are still be arranged, but I'll post them up once I have them. So who is coming along? Please only put your name forward if you're sure you'll be able to attend. Reason: Merged topics as one had already been started for this
Re: Peak protestCome on get your names down. These lanes will shut for ever if no one makes a stand
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!
Re: Peak protestIt's highly unlikely I would be able to make the protest, but I have sent protest emails to each of the addresses given
Re: Peak protestI have sent protest emails but i cant drive all the way to the peaks for a protest unfortunately!
Is there one of the UK gov petitions? Might be worth getting one setup to see how many sigs you can get in support. Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check
Re: Peak protestSomething i will mention, my wife is disabled and has always dreamed of seeing the Peaks in the flesh like those who walk them do. I bought The Hulk in part hoping to be able to take her up there one day as she cannot do the walk. I sincerely hope they do not close these routes
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check
Re: Peak protestCheers bud for doing the online petition if we protest enough something might happen and lanes will get managed correctly as and when needed.
SO COME ON GET YOUR NAMES ON THE LIST!!! Yes I am shouting now as no else seem's bothered It might be slow but i can go anywhere!

Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)I didn't realise anyone from fog was going I've been following this on the 4x4 face book page.
I'm free Sunday and am making the trek from Oxfordshire if anyone wants to meet up on route I would prefer a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.
Seek not excess, God hates he who roams !

Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)Come on folks who else is coming?? I'm sure if this was a laning trip in the Peaks there would be plenty of interest.
Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)It's not quite as simple as that Craig.
The last Peek's trip had 5 people on the list if I remember rightly. You are also not the only one having a battle to keep lanes open. I am in the middle of something very similar in North Wales, and whilst I fully support your quest to keep the lanes open I think the methods you are employing are, in my personal opinion, ridiculous and counter productive , so whilst I am happy to support the cause by filling in petitions I'm afraid I couldn't possibly support your action on the ground. Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)I totally agree...we all do our bit in different ways, and I think this protest is giving the antis more ammunition than they could have ever dreamed of... They love to take things out of context, so guess what, pictures of your slow moving convoys of multiple trucks will be their new anti laning pics, giving the impression that this is what we do on by-ways... Setting out to annoy the local resisdents (of whom only a very small proportion probably object to us laning, the main objectors being those to travel to the area to go rambling and expect to not see anything in the country but cows and sheep...) is only going to be counterproductive I think, and will get more of them on the side of the anti's. Great that you want to do something about it, but the wrong way I reckon... If you all want to park outside parliament and get noticed that way that count me in, I will even try and get hold of a car transporter so I can bring ALL of my trucks up for maximum impact. Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)I can appreciate your point of view, and you are of course entitled to it.
The action was been brought about by the local vehicle user group, who I would say are the best placed to decide on the most appropriate action in the area where they have the most knowledge of the situation on the ground. It's also supported by GLASS and the TRF. The first protest worked well, with good coverage in the local papers which was also positive and helped to raise the profile of motor users views.
Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)
Can you substantiate this?...because I havent seen any "new" lanes open, or less closures...and the anti's seem just as anti as they always are? I am not being funny with you Craig, its just that what seemed to maybe have been a good day with some favorable press at the time, doesnt mean that its for the greater good in the long run. I dont live in the mountains or an area with masses of beautiful lanes really...however it p1sses me off when dog owners let there dogs cr4p on the path near my house...Would 200 dog owners (albiet ones who pick up their dogs poo) turning up and dawdling down the road at a snails pace making me late for work, or miss an appointment make me think differently about dogs or their owners...No...It would just annoy me, and hey presto, one more anti All I am saying is that disruption is a real dangerous line to take to try and promote a cause...look at strikes, do the general public think more of the cause, or do they get annoyed because of the impact on their lives. I think that maybe us 4x4 owners joining ramblers clubs and going out with them for a days walking giving a chance to talk to them 1 to 1 and get across to them that we are not all irresponsible idiots...even maybe try and get them to come out with us for a day, might be a better approach. Or better still us try and help get the idiots of the lanes, the ones who go offpiste and look at lanes and adjacent land like a playground. We could even take the police out with us if they havent got the vehicles to catch the offenders. Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: Peak protest (MEET POINT ADDED)I can there's a couple in the peaks that have been cleared and even sign post stating that it's a boat road. So anything that brings it to the public's attention is good.
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!
