Cambridgeshire laning day

Postby hipo1024 on Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:49 am

Ok...been meaning to do this for some time now....so here we go. Ive plotted out a 35 mile long route that takes us from just outside Cambridge to just west of Ely. Ive done almost all of the lanes at some point, so all should be open and clear but if we find any closed it wont be far too the next one :P seeing as only about 10 of the 35 miles are on tarmac

Dates open to suggestion, but Sunday the 30th of this month would be ideal for me as thats the last day the truck has any tax lol - means I can SORN it for a month or 2 :silent:
The meet point would be Tesco's milton (J33 of the A14)
The lanes can be scratchy so if your going to end up crying because the trucks gained some scratches then Id say either jump in someone elses truck or dont come :P Also given its been fairly hot and dry recently ATs should be perfectly fine, but muds would be best, just incase. The lanes are not very technical, just more about seeing the country side.

If by some chance we finish the 35 miles too early in the day I know of a load of other lanes near by that I just couldnt be bothered to factor into the route.

All the usewell FOG laning rules apply, no more than 6 trucks tops, 4 or 5 would be prefered, and CBs are useful but not essential. Add your names to the list and say if sunday the 30th is any good to you or if you'd like a different date.

Here are some pics from previous years (my old truck)...

Not being funny fellas...but if a lane needs 4 hrs of winching to get through it, then thats a lane that should be left alone...

As a rule, even if you need mud tyres, the lane should be left, a healthy lane should easily be done on A/t's.

Dont mean to sound a kill joy, but laning is laning, it not mud plugging, and if you are leaving tyre marks behind you, then you are damaging it, and could be contribituting to its closure and its loss to all of us for ever.

No that patch fudge is on about gets a lot of use from farmers, as all of them do around here, and not all the way along either so it can be a case of this looks nice, then OK a few ruts but nothing too serious, to ohh fek. But with a huge drainage ditch (im talking 15ft deep V shaped notches in the ground) on one side and freshly plowed field on the other and best part of a mile back to the start forwards is the safest bet. Then do that very same lane again 6 weeks later and its completely different again so its a case of go when the weather is good so the ground is hard. But in the fens your always going to get soft bits here and there. But all that said and done the farmers are pretty good and fix the lanes once they have finished with them. Also fudge only had road tyres on at the time and it had rained that day. My B series made it through fine so it wasn't too bad, just wet clay and road tyres mean you don't move forwards once you stop. And there is a way over the train tracks to avoid the tunnel
