Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )So today Dave + me in his truck, Stevd in his and Nigel (Sivy) decided to do a little gentle laning to introduce Nigel to the wonderful word of green laning.
Things started out OK , but took a dramatic turn for the worse as half way up Whitestones Dave managed to bounce on pure sheet ice so that he was almost rolling and hanging over the edge of a 15 foot drop. What made it worrying is that without it being touched and with Dave still inside not sure whether to abandon ship or stay put, the Fronty suddenly started sliding close to the edge To cut a very long story short after driving through an adjoining field Stevd and Nigel hooked themselves up in tandem and tried to move him without much joy. Thankfully after numerous attempts and going nowhere a Nissan Patrol turned up with a winch that could tow the QE2 out and dragged him all the way back up the lane. Here are some of the pics from the day...... Just in case it isn't obvious, Dave's truck should be pointing up the valley not at a right angle to the lane hanging over the edge of a major drop It's a shame that the pics don't do it justice, but I can assure you I wasn't convinced we'd see that truck back alive!
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )That's bloody scary Boxy, I'm glad it turned out OK for Dave.....another lesson learned

Si i think you dave and steved should stay together on the strata trip as every time you lot go out something happens
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )It's Dave mate, he's a bloody Jonah! Funnily enough before we went out for the day Stevd said I'm not keen ongoing with Dave as something always happens
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )I found myself in a similar position a few years ago on the Pheasant steps, bloody scary.
I remember there was a LR stuck on that part of White stones a couple of years ago, its bad enough even in the wet. Some days even your lucky underpants wont even help Ste

Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )Drifty - it was bad, but as usual the start of the lane had no ice so we decided to go for it. Once your on the lane it's too late
The ice which covered the entire width of the lane was like glass !
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )
No argument from me fella !
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )Your right once on that section you are committed, we had this last year (the disco didnt make it in the end) just a bit further up the lane.
It took us over an hour to get three cars through. Ste

Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )I reckon we were there for 2 hours or so.
It was the fact there zero traction and the truck was on a fairly major lean, plus gravity was trying to pull it over the edge. God knows what Nigel (Sivy28) made of his first laning trip
Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )Did you drop the tyre pressures?
Does look interesting though Ste

Re: Whitestones ( Going BADLY wrong )Ste, they were already pretty low. And to be honest, you couldn't stand up on it as it was sooooo slippy. If it was level ground there probably wouldn't have been a problem, but due to the angle it kept sliding on its own due to the mass wanting to go down hill. We attached it to Stevd's truck to stop it going any further, but the second we released tension it went on the slide again
