Hello all,

I have just seen on my OS map what looks to potentially be a very nice lane to drive, and it is just off one of my all time fav driving roads back when I had my RX8. the first lane ref is SH8448 looks like you can only go so far and then have to turn around, the other being SH8548.

Has any one had the pleasure of riving these?

Thats kinda of the area around the lost lake, a,though ysbyty is the other side of the road, lots of people have done lanes round there, so someone should be able to say soon.

You are right though, it is the BEST place to go driving  although it is one huge pot hole at the minute :(

The lane is recorded on Trailwise but here is no user info added, its down as an unclassified unsealed road, well worth calling Conwy Council Rights of Way Officer, I believe Conwy are very helpful

Did this one a couple of years back, the entrance to the lane is just past the turning for Ysbyty Ifan on the left coming from Pentrefoelas. its a gentle lane, but it would be good to do as drift advises by checking it out with the rights of way officer, or ask Phill, Sir Doris as he's knowledgeable regarding the lanes up there.

Used to pass through hisbutty ivan, paddling a kyack on the river Conwy as a warm up to paddling the upper Conwy Gorge, now that was an adrenaline rush I used to look forward to.

Id love to have a go at that! Not done kyacking since I was a kid.

The track I was looking at start from Ysbyty itself, trailwise ID SH8448-02, but there is also another track SH8548-02

I have been trying to put together a new route as I am bored with the same old same old.

This is what I was thinking -

From Betwys y Coed ID SH7554-01 ( is this called sarn helen or the roman road?) then on to this one SH7453-01 to - Dolwyddelan

Then from Dolwyddelan to Penmachno on SH7352-03

Then this one which lead back towards Ysbyty SH8049-01

Then this to Blaen y Cwm SH8548-02

and then this one from caer garreg SH9143-01

Has any one had any experience with this? What about you Cheekychick? Its right on your door step isnt it? I know what you mean about it being a big pot hole, it was great with my Mazdas suspension.

If this isnt really suitable, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Cheers

more on my doorstep than you can imagine

Phil is definitely the boy to speak to...

It would def be worth calling the council, I know that some of Sarn Helen is closed off to cars now, especially over by Dolwyddelan. Anything over this way is worth a double check, also, some must be forestry involved somewhere along the route, and I would suggest avoiding the Penmachno bike trail like the plague, as its a pita to go up there. They complain when they nearly run into you  (cue comments about cleaning mud of mountain bikers  )

The one that you have listed as going over Penmachno - Ysbyty Ifan is one I am sure I have done with Phil, and someone else did this last year, as I stole a picture they took. It is a really nice lane if I am thinking of the same one.

I am (finally) getting Stan (my old b series) back in a couple of weeks, so would be well up for a reccy if i can get my lift and wotnot sorted out quick enough
