Advice needed on green laning & fording

Postby richardshall on Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:52 pm

Hi, I was thinking of going green laning or fording soon and just wanted to ask a couple of things.
First...do i need a snorkle, ....im not planning on going through really deep water but just wanted to check .
Also ..... this might sound like im being thick  but does any water come inside your truck and if it does is it much :?
Thanks for any advice :D

Hi mate. Firstly, a snorkel isn't necessary for laning. Water may come through the door seals, but only if it's deep...at which point, you'd be needing a snorkel. Check out this link for some tips...

Firstly who are going with? Only asking because if your new to it its not a good idea to go on your own in case you get stuck you dont have anyone on hand to snatch you out. Secondly, for your first trip roughly the top of your tyres is the very max wading depth you wanna attemp. if its anything bigger than a puddle,a ford for example you will want 4WD low ratio prob 2nd ,keep the momentum going and the revs up. if you stall do not try and restart in the water you will then need then assistance of a more experienced green laner.
before you go check ALL levels, make sure you know how to use all the off-road systems in you truck and check the route is legal.
Most of all enjoy it.
Nearly forgot, lots of pictures to show us all aswell.

Drop erkos bro (rich) a pm....he's somewhere near there I think and might be up for joining you...
He's ok really despite the rumours...yes he drinks his own bathwater and talks to plants and listens to their answers...but dont let that put you off...
Good idea to go with someone else and Richy will be only to happy to see how deep stuff is for you...but if you see only the tip of his aerial showing, call the emergency services when you get a spare five mins, sometime, within the next few days if you can...

Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again...
She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body...
Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer!

If you can't get on a trip on here, there are one or two guides out there that would take you. Thats how I started, and if you are new to it all might be the way forward as you don't have to worry about recovery, ROW's etc etc. keep your eyes peeled for trips on here though.
Someone mention laning? Just tell me when and where!
