well let me be the first to say i broke my record for having the v6 off-road, this time i made it to 20 minutes in total off roading before breaking it again, not to bad this time, just the viscus fan gave up the ghost, had got about 100 yards up the wayfarer and the temp shot through the roof, had to get huggy to back down to let me of the lane, so i could make my way home, drove home fine, at least i got to do the carwash,

as i was about to back down the lane, simo run to the back of my truck shouting hold on hold on, then he robbed me of all the sausage rolls and pies, hope you choke, lol,

hope you all had fun,

ps, no sign of roo, must still be in Chester zoo

Thats Andy in his yellow truck mate, not me. I was on the bank having a fag :D

Day started off cold (2.5c) , then the sun came out to such an extent it was actually warm at the top of the wayfarer

As Andy stated earlier, Andy managed to stay long enough to feed us (cheers mate) before his fan gave up the ghost :( 3hr round trip for 15mins green laning, did feel for ya mate , obviously while taking the p*ss at the same time :P

Had a few major tank slappers over the rocks and was grounding out for a past time. So much so that the Mrs has now insisted I get a suspension lift before I come out again. Happy days ! Only damage seemed to be a small tin bash guard that managed to wrap itself around my prop and score it :? Quick bit of brute force with a pair of molegrips soon sorted that. I actually led for a while which was cool as we were on my home turf.

Simo had spent all the time we were out trying to avoid hearing about the Liverpool vs Everton score as his Mrs was recording it for when he got home. He was doing really well until we nearly finished and a helpful Landy owner leant out of his window and said '' Liverpool 2-0 down against Everton lads'' PMSL

Another good day with a cracking bunch of lads. Thanks to all for making the Mrs and youngest daughter feel welcome. Even the Mrs had to concede that it was 'actually quite good'' She has agreed to come to the next annual meet but has made it clear she wants a tent with heating. WTF ? Women!!!!

Anyway, some more piccies. .....

Got a call from Dwifty earlier when he was waiting for the AA...sorry Andy doing an AA impression in his wannabe AA truck,.....to bring cooling water for Dwifty's wheel bearing...

It seems that his 2.8lwb decided it would rather be a three wheeler (almost), I thought he must have had the Bobbinsjob wheel nut mod as he said it , but I was wrong as it destroyed a front wheel bearing at speed!!!

Hope you all got home alright...seems to have been a day of breakages to more or lesser degrees.... :(

Yep...fortunately only about 2 miles from home the bearing kinda collapsed from what Ste was saying...they cooled it down and limped it a mile before it was red/white hot again, that was when I spoke to him, as Andy was fetching some more water to cool it down for the last little bit to get the truck home...

Postby Drift on Sun Oct 17, 2010 11:37 pm

Thank you all for another cracking day, and what fantastic weather we had

Well from the freezing cold Corwen Car Park messing around and chatting and eating cakes for breakfast  to our first stop at the river, and in that short distance it went from freezing to rather pleasantly warm

Image
Image

Then onto the Wayfarer, sadly this was the last time most of the guys except me saw Andy today, these where taken while he was going backwards :oh yer:

Image
Image

At the top Si needed to find some shade and the heat affected Simo a little bit.

Image
Image

Image
Image
Image

Then it was onward to white stones
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Then it was a trip to the short cut lane we never named but is mostly tarmac
At this point I hear a metallic noise from my front wheel, I checked and saw the inner cv boot had worked loose of the tie, so sorted that and just put the noise down to a partially locked hub, as it stopped after messing with the manual hub.
And then not so splashy lane.

Image
Image

And then, just over a mile from home as I was leaving the M57 after rather a quick dash, I thought I had blew a tyre, to limped off as was on the slip road, stopped on a grass verge low and behold the grass was on fire around my hub and smoke was bellowing out, so I squirted what water I had on the hub (not the disc or brakes) got the waffle board out jacked the car up took the wheel off, at this point Andy arrived within 5 minutes like a true AA gent in a yellow truck
So more water and a stop to cool it down, it was the longest mile ever and thew wheel was very wonky

We got outside my house and set to work on the red hot hub.

stripped down we found this

Image
Image

That is metal embedded into the mud guard
Image
The other side of the guard
Image

That gooey mess on the left used to be a bearing like the one on the right

Image

So front inner and outer bearing and seal changed, brakes refitted, wheel wouldnt budge grrrrrr so off with the brakes and the carrier had been damaged and off centre and we couldnt get the caliper and carries separated...so me being a hoarder had a spare carrier and a refurbed caliper I did a while back....success it all works and lives happily ever after..bloody long day though.

Cheers for the help and support Andy, was a giggle lol.
