"Redlaning" with no Fording

Postby mid77 on Tue Oct 27, 2009 12:04 am

Well, all going well with getting the Fronty fixed, I have to head down to Melbourne this weekend for a couple of family shindigs so decided to make a bit of a journey of it. I've always wanted to see the Darling River Country (outback NSW) so I've taken next week off and will have a crack at the Darling River Way. It runs for about 800kms from Mildura in Victoria to Bourke in outback NSW and crosses some of the driest land in the country (they've been in drought for just on a decade) as it snakes its way along the banks of the Darling. Can't really call it greenlaning though sorry chaps, as for the most part it's red sand/bulldust/corrugated tracks :)

Apologies, but I am so looking forward to it so had to gloat

Kind of, pretty sure that now it is a "B" to "B" Bash. They just pick two towns with names starting with B and have a race between them in old bombs of cars

I liked it the year that a competitor drove over the start line, stopped & then got air lifted by helicopter to the final destination, then got disqualified as he had not driven over the finish line

Hahaha, that reminds me of a story I heard about some cops a while ago. There was a running competition amongst the staff at a country victorian police station as to who could take a photo of the divy van (police panel van) in the most outrageous location. One of the guys called up his mate who was a pilot in the airforce and convinced him to load it into a Hercules he was pilot of and fly it to north queensland. He managed to get a photo of it overlooking the harbour at townsville but as he was heading back to the airforce base to load it back on the herc his mate got sent on to Timor with supplies meaning he had to drive it the ~3000kms home. Suffice to say he won the competition. Pretty sure he lost his job though :)
