Well, I have had a fantastic day out.

The best days driving i have ever had in my Fronty.

I originally wanted to have a look at a few fords in Carmarthenshire for a meet later this year.

I shortlisted 8, but ended up at 9, found some that are not on Wetroads.

I drove through 7 of the 9, but baulked at the first and the last due to the sheer volume of water in them.

Pics to follow.

Ok, here we go.

Image

The first port of call at Ffairfach, near Llandilo. Too deep

Image

The ford at Brechfa. This was at about 2.30pm. I drove it again about an hour later and the water was halfway up the drivers door

You could feel the car being pushed by the force of the water

This one is on a lane to the east of Brechfa, at Pen y Banc

The last three are at Cilsan, not far from Llandilo, i baulked again. The photos dont show how fast the river was flowing.

I now have a rout planned for the meet.

Any water babies out there (SS & AA), you would have wet yourselves today, it was fantastic

The road route is planned. it takes about 3.5 hrs from meet point, with a possibility to do a couple of uncharted fords.

Ffairfach was my first call, i had no confidence at that point, but as the day progressed, i got better.

Cilsan would have been silly, the flow was too fast.

It pi$$ed down all day, and i mean really heavy. I got a bit frightened going through the Brechfa ford the second time. Its a bit unnerving when your fronty is being pushed sideways

The day was fantastic, you guys are in for a treat :D

All we need now is a date??

Suggestions please

I agree on Cilsan. Might be better seeing that after a dry spell and walking through it first to determine road edge, road surface ie;slippy/cobbled and rough speed, then you'll be able to work out the angle needed by your fronty to go in a straight line!!

I hope you got piccies of the uncharted ones and spot on locations?
then you can Mail them to Lee and He'll add them to the Site!!

As I said earlier, you set the Date.

There are pics of the uncharted ones on photobucket.

Do you want me to email them to you?

Or to Lee at wetroads?

I timed (sot of) a route.

We meet at Pont Abraham services at the end of the M4.

Ffairfach is the first ford, 10 miles from the meet.

From that one, it took me 3.5hrs to get ropund the route.

The roads are all tarmack, although i did use 4x4 on some of the steep bits, today, due to the weather.

Realistically, its a non damaging run that can be done on road tyres.

The only reason i balked at the first and last was due to adverse weather conditions.

The fords, them selves, were in good condition. Bottoms mainly concrete.

The two uncharted ones were trickles, rather than full flow. (streams, rather than rivers)

None of the fords i viseted today had any form of depth guage, that i could see.

But we will have to see on the day who has the cahoonas to splash trough

28th of Nov?

Sounds good to me, Luke.

Comments please.....
