Avon Dassett Quarry. Any good?

Postby stompingbinkie on Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:13 pm

Been checking out my local 4x4 sites and this one is pretty local to me, and £20 for the day is a bargain, im used to paying over £100 for trackdys! but looking through the gallery on there site, it looks very erm, hard! Alot of pictures of upside down landrovers. Has anyone been here, and can me and my standard 2.3td Frontera last the day? This would be my first 'proper' off road experience and have limited knowledge. :?: :!:

Any info would be gratefully appreiciated!

Depends what you call Extreme my friend!!

My thoughts are that if its been driven before its a challenge...

if its never been driven and 50/50 whether you will make it or roll repeatedly as you fall 200ft back down and into the sea...now thats extreme!!

But then we are nutters when we go cliff climbing down here...

we have decents where you have the floor it in 2nd or 3rd half way down to put the back wheels back on the ground again and stop the back end coming over in a length wise roll....
My claim to fame is a J turn in a landcruiser fj60 when 150ft up on a extreme climb, when a front cv exploded and I had to abort the climb. There was a turn needed about 50ft up as there was a verticle drop onto rocks which would not have happened backwards....smoked several cigarettes after that one!! :oh yer:

There are tame bits at avon dassett so plenty of time to practise and build up the more severe stuff, always a good idea to watch others fluff it first and the formulate your own plan.

Enjoy my friend...its a good site...loads of challenges and help
