Re: Strata Florida & The Gap Rd Camping Weekend ReviewI have to say it was a fantastic weekend and company, good old gang and quite a few new faces and friends
Andysd1 drove down with furball as a copilot and I was on my own, Ive never laughed so much in a car by myself as on that trip, Andy is plain mental, thank the lord for a cb and I didnt have to sit next to him, the theme continued for the weekend, Andy had everyone terrified of him with his antics but on the same note he had them laughing Even on top of The Gap he was giving cakes out to hikers..........sorry female hikers It was a blast, my copilot on Saturday was Mike Dogger ( he explained the name Dogger and I felt better) brilliant, we got christened " Right said Fred" ......dunno why Sunday we all had a change of plan and went to different lanes. Thank to Phil for finding some cracking lanes. And thank you to everyone for the weekend Ste

Re: Strata Florida & The Gap Rd Camping Weekend ReviewHaving spent less time on the forum over the past few weeks, I was thoroughly reminded this weekend of what I have missed.
What a great bunch of people FOGgers are; equally ready to have a laugh or lend a hand - and we had plenty of both over the weekend - a sterling bunch, the lot of you. Arriving at around 18:00, once the tent was up, an evening meal came courtesy of a local chippy (thanks Alex/Spencer), and once the wood burner was lit, settled down to a little socialising with a couple of tins. From 07:30 the camp site oozed the aroma of bacon, egg, sausage and tomato and other wholesome breakfast foods. Whilst Dir Doris lead the "Scousers", I would lead the the "Midlanders" in the Sport (almost nicknamed "NASA" or "Space Shuttle"). The Gap Road was first: Followed by the scratchy lane (lots of lanes appear to be tagged so): After an enjoyable 40 minute road section, we came to Strata Florida: After the two groups meeting up at the northern end for a social, we about turned and re-drove the lane. Over the CB, Alex was airing concern that the 2.8 estate did not "feel right". Having gotten out and prodded and poked various items of suspension, nothing untoward was found, so continued with caution. After entering the wooded section (about 2/3's in) a near side coil spring made an impressive break for freedom. Dusk had appeared quickly in amongst the trees and a number of torches were used to try and reseat the now retrieved coil spring. The dark and the damp and soft ground were not the ideal location to be doing this, and the arrival of another (non FOG) laning group prompted us to make a slow and careful drive for a tarmac surface to work on. With young Spencer in another vehicle for just in case safety, the rest of the lane was slow going, but once on hard ground, the refitment of the wayward spring took all of 20 minutes. A phone call to the camp site would determine we were too late for free food ad a birthday BBQ, so stopped of in Buith at a Kebab shop, returning to the camp site to catch up on some beer. On Sunday, the "Scousers" headed north, while the "Midlanders" headed East and to a Total Off Road route around Kington: Talk about scratchy lanes... although the later lanes were more scenic, and a number of stream crossings added in for good measure: Thanks guys, was a cracking weekend. Lawrence
