my first trip out in the fronty was to lamancha and that was great fun. Only thing i broke was the pathetic plastic sump gaurd underneath, no great loss! You'd be amazed what a standard fronty can do!

That was fun - but not just fronties! We needed the winches on some other folks as well, iirc.

Forest drives for me are very tame. I've done the ones over Dunoon way in the distant past, and the Duke's Past is part of Achray Stage used on last year's Rally of Scotland. I *ahem* needed to drive it a few times at speed, so a wee wander would be a bit dull..

I'll check out a couple of other options, all abilities considered.

Sorry all, been away for work, just home this arvo after leaving Leeds on the 3pm train on Tuesday. Waited 2.5hrs south of Dunbar for them to decide we couldn't get past the 2 landslides and flood on the line nr Edinburgh, then train went back to Berwick where a coach eventually turned up to take us to Edinburgh, where we then got a train to Dundee, where we then got put into taxis to take us to Aberdeen, nearly there and BAM!! Taxi spun 360degrees and landed in the gravel in the central reservation. Finally got to Abdn at 3.30am and found a room, had to stay last night too and as I say, home today feeling worse for wear.

However, I'm liking the idea of a forest drive. May be tame for some, this surely this first meeting or two is only to get to know people so no point going all out bashing yer trucks around in the mud and not getting to talk to anyone. Surely??

I'm afraid we can't make it until the end of May as I said, due to lambing.

I thinking the same just for a first meet just to get to know could bring some food n soft drinks have a b&q picnic thing just to kick us off. French farmer has a friend who can help with the dirty stuff. Jools has said he going to see what he can find see what he come back with.A forest drive as it stands and if something better we all fancy come sup then it goes to the majority vote

if you are finding it a bit tough to find places to go why dont you join a 4x4 club and go out with them.there is lots of clubs that do cater for shiny trucks and you meet a great bunch of folk.try boarders 4x4 they do not go mad when playing they drive around enjoying them self s.i am sure that you will be able to go to one of there meets and join in.its just a thought you can have a meet within a meet so to speak

The difference is that clubs that 'really' exist are almost always limited companies, and many are affiliated with the MSA to allow them to run competitions. (all to do with liability insurance etc). The basic level of competition is a Tyro Trial, which is great fun and totally no-car damaging. Upwards from there - I did a great year of Road Tax Vehicle trials (RTV).... A class win, but not one undented panel.

We hooked up with Scottish Off Road Club a couple of years back and had a laugh at Lamancha.

I agree that to start we should stick to a nice social drive, meet and chat.

BTW- SMC? What club is that?

Scottish mud club
