CLUB STANDS

Postby Rifleman on Tue Jun 24, 2008 12:17 pm

Heh this is an idea that came to mind, and maybe the guys who run the Scottish side of the FOG would like to think about taking it on board?
I am into classic cars, bikes, trucks etc and enjoy attending the various shows locally when I can.
I was going to attend the pre 67 Ford show at Bridge of Allan in July, but it happens to be on the same day as Lamancha.
Anyway, my idea was, why dont we see about trying to organise a stand for FOG at these shows? It would be a great way of meeting each other, checking out others ideas and mods, and basically showing off our vehicles. All we would need as far as equipment goes, is a gazeebo or large tent (which I could supply) or even a small caravan, BBQ and food.
We could maybe have large flags made and also hand out leaflets. There could even be a chance to sell some of the FOG products. Have a display area with action photos of what we get up to.
It would be a great advert for us. What do you guys think? Also the guys down south may like to think on it.
Have we ever thought about this before? Can we do it as we are not officially a club are we?
Comments invited.

Hi Stuart, I dont know how to go about it mate, but I would suppose contacting the organisers would be the way to go. I would imagine that the costs would vary quite a bit as the shows vary in size. But the smaller shows (locally for example) would be the way to start so that we could gain experience and help by speaking to the other clubs. If I decide to attend the Bridge of Allan show, i'll see what I can find out mate.

Cheers Stuart, just had a thought, i'm led to believe that there is a Tayside 4x4 club, they might be worth getting in touch with as I'm sure they attend shows as a club.
Get back to you later mate.

I don't know if it will be of any use but as my father in law is a member of the south potteries MG owners club they attend a lot of shows during the sunny season.
If you like i could try to get info regarding costs of a pitch etc, and the finer details as to how you go about setting up for a show.
Let me know and i'll ask away.

I for one would be very interested in attending shows if there was enough interest in this area as i believe it would be a great way of socializing and getting the Frontera noticed for what it is. Having been to a couple of shows with the father in law it has always been a good day out with lots of light banter and the chance to pick up some bargains at the autojumble stalls to boot.

Cheers

Dan

Hi Guys,
as promised i have had a word with the father in law, well to be honest the mother in law 'cos she makes more sense, Anyway here is what she has said so far......
She is going to have a word with the guy who arranges all the details regarding getting a pitch at these shows and give him my mobile number, so we can have a chat as to what i / we want to know and how to get started. Once i have had a chat and explained whats what i will ask if me minds if i pass his number onto someone else from the site with more authority than me, i guess the virtual toilet cleaners is as good a place to start as any, so they can then get more of an understanding of the ins and outs of arranging / booking for the various gatherings.
This would obviously be in the form of a PM so that only the relevant people can contact him.
I guess what i need to know now is who should i forward his contact details to, assuming he doesn't have a problem with this.
As soon as i hear from the guy i will post on here with an update and if he agrees forward his number to whoever. Sorry it's a bit long winded and i hope it makes sense.... i fink i understand and i'm writing the damn post :oh yer: :oh yer: :oh yer:.
I hope this is of some use.
Cheers
Dan

Re: CLUB STANDS

Only me again,
i have just had a chat with the fella from the MG club who USED to arrange all the club days, here is what he said...........
The basis principle of getting a "stand / pitch" at a show is very simple, all you do is contact the show organisers, in the northwest region a main organiser is www.transtarpromotions.co.uk. You tell them how many cars/ trucks you want to book for and pay the price, again in the N.W it is about £2 - £2.50 per vehicle. The organisers then send you the tickets and on the day you turn up with the tickets and will be directed to where your pitch for the day / weekend is.
The hard part is finding out the event organisers contact details.
I can only talk about the N.W due to his contacts but he has informed me that although all the events are listed as "classic car shows" they are more than welcoming and would love to see more 4x4 groups attending.
As far as any banners, flags, advertising, etc i guess the cost is as large or as small as you want it to be.

Personally i think this is the perfect opportunity to start showing just what is possible with the trusty fronties and getting interest raised in the marque, 'cos it has been very underrated for far too long in my opinion.

I welcome any questions on this and will forward them and get responses as and when is possible.

Cheers
Dan

I know this is in the wrong section, but thought it sort of relevant, as my Sport will be part of a Motor Club stand in the Midlands next month.

Shustoke is a little village in the East Midlands that used to have a farm animal show/fair, that has developed into a motoring show, with the main dealers in the area attending and one-make clubs - we get in with our "promoting organised motor sport".

Having two or three rally cars and a winch challenge 4x4 should be something a little different.

In the past our rally team even exhibited at the Peugeot GTI Autosport Club (PGAC) show, two years on the trot:

Image

The banner was made with an old lorry siding and some sticky backed plastic.

Have a look round you local village notice boards or local papers to see what's on - worth a try.

Some good stuff there from Dan, Stuart.
Lawrence, thats a good idea for banners, if someone can come up with the backing material, the sticky plastic shouldn't be a problem.
Thoughts?
