Hi all
Just wanted to say a quick hello and introduce myself, names Chris and I'm from Pontypool, just got my first Frontera which is also my first 4x4.
Its a 95 2.8TDi LWB, reasonable nick, had it for about a month and so far its been OK.
Not been off tarmac yet but always up for a challenge.
Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one

There is on my door step a large open mountain area with lots of off road/green lane potential. Went last weekend for a look see and there are loads of tracks, heading off the tarmac and had a good session exploring some of them. Its known locally as 'The British' and is well used by local lads on their bikes etc. Don't want to upset anyone or break the law so question is how do I find out if it is OK to drive on these tracks?

hey ide start with an OS map of the area and if the tracks are marked up as roads/byways open to all traffic then you should be ok.
next step is contact local council and see if they can give you any info.

As Luke said, your best bet is to contact the local council rights of way officer. He will have knowledge of the definitive map, which has all legally drivable routes

Not too impressed with multimap, it doesn't even show the tarmac road that runs over the mountain, as for the lanes they do not exist on multimap either, at least not in this area.
