Electric cooling fan.

Postby Shannos on Wed Jun 14, 2017 10:04 am

Hi all. I have been given an electric cooling fan from a mate over the road as he had one spare.
Now am I better off removing the viscous fan and putting this in it's place or placing it the other side of the rad to draw more air in with the viscous still in place.
In the heat the gauge is just below the red when in traffic etc but does go down when driving to halfway but I would prefer to get it lower when in traffic hence the electric fan.

I would have thought that if the viscous fan is working there is probably enough air getting in. I would drain the coolant and flush the system thoroughly, possibly change the thermostat in case the original one is not opening fully and top it up with the correct mix of coolant again. Clean the outside of the rad to make sure the air can be drawn through, mine was full of mud and grass last time I washed it through.
