CB radio use is it legal or illegal?

Postby dave1966 on Sun Apr 30, 2017 4:42 am

Hi all.

I've read that cb radio use is illegal but I'm confused about it.

So is cb radio use legal or illegal?

Here is the link I read this about.

Legal.
It required a paid licence from the Radiocommunication Agency until a few years ago, but that was s scrapped and you simply buy a rig.

You do still have the 4 watt transmission power limit, and while you can't be prosecuted for using it on the move line a phone, there's still the catch - all of driving without due care.

Yeah Dave, the AM ones were originally brought in from the States about 40 years ago. I got a hold of one of the first ones to come over. In fact I think I have about 3 lying around somewhere still.
They were made illegal here because they interfered with so many things, and after a huge campaign, the Government decided to allow the production of FM ones for use here, on licence.
They eventually gave up on the licence though.
I think radio hams can use them on their licences.
Regards, Keith.
