series b alarm fault

Postby jimdawson50 on Sun Jun 19, 2016 9:23 am

Hi

I have a series b 5 door. On Friday morning the alarm went off at about 9.30. Went out to the car unlocked it with the remote then relocked it and left it. No problem. Went to Asda about 11.30 parked there no problem. Back about 12.15. Again locked it no problem. Used the car until about 4.00. Again locked it. Took the dog for a walk about 4.15. Five minutes after I had left alarm went off. Wife unlocked and relocked. Alarm went off 4 times in ten minutes. She left the car unlocked. I got back about 6.00 locked the car and it was fine all night. Saturday morning went out about 8.30 dropped my wife off and went to walk the dog. About 1 minute after locking the car the alarm went off. Did this 3 times. In the end left it unlocked. Tried cleaning the battery terminals in the afternoon. Locked the car about 4.00 and all okay until 8.30 when the alarm went off. Unlocked and relocked. Okay until 9.30 when it went off again.

Can you disable the alarm so you can lock the car?

Any ideas how to fix it. It seems worse when the car's just been run.

Have you tried diactivating the internal sensors in case it's one of them playing up? could also be the power sounder where is the sound coming from?

Not sure how to do that. Sound seems to be the horn and the alarm itself.

If I could switch off the alarm in the short term that would be a help.

There's a button on the dash of a running man press that before you get out and use the fob as normal to lock.

So the alarm is the sounder under the bonnet?

There is no easy way to just switch it off you could remove associated fuses/relays.

The Alarm sounder is under the passenger side front wheel arch on the bulkhead side Lots of advice on how to get it off on here . Remove the plastic liner and you will see a box, Now _ I didn't believe this when I did mine but you need to dig a hole in your garden When you pull off the sounder it will literally go mad and you need to sling it in the hole and bury it to stop the noise !

He said it's coming from the engine bay, also no hole digging required simply have the ignition on to position 2 and remove and it will not go off.

Have you tried a new battery. The alarm system is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. The battery will be charged after running.....but a failing battery will start to drop that peak value quickly and it may be detecting that.
There is a horn sounder on the drivers side inner wing near the master cylinder/ABS modulator area. If you disconnect it the alarm will not sound....it will still go off with the hazards going but you should get a good nights sleep. If your still getting an alarm then it is the power sounder in the wheel arch that is failing and will need removing as others have said. Power sounders can have the internal nicad cell replaced if your a dab hand with the soldering iron.
