WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!A few days ago forgot to shut the O/S back door on Truck properly at work before driving off.... Large metal security gate 1, rear door 0.... Anyone got a spare A series O/S rear passenger door in black going?
Today, nothing involving spanners. Did spend some time looking at both of them sat on the drive and wondering if at 286k it's getting near the time to retire Truck from daily use to a life of being a laning toy. it has been getting a bit rattily of late! Been thinking of going back to a Volvo for the daily drive for some time. I have a V70 R AWD in mind if I can find a good one. Think I'll sort out the dents n things on Truck, run it up to the 300k mark and then retire it for laning. It'll give me a few months to find a decent Volvo. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Yesterday Andytats popped over as I was having a bad day/weekend, rear left door wouldn't open so after some minor surgery to the door card a crow bar and some lube the door is now open. All this to change the headlining. Next weekend the 2.8 will be in surgery all weekend. I will be replacing the rear axle (again) and the steering box.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Put the charger on Grünstreifen's battery as today the starter only made those typical noises tickticktick...
Have to test it tomorrow. Preparing myself mentally for replacement oft the battery. There is a sticker on the actual one saying it's from 2008  Sadly these little superficial cracks at the flanks of the rear tyres have not vanished. MTs obviously are not built for motorways if you are in a hurry... Passed MOT with these in Dec but long distance rides with them I am not really confident. Just some thoughts guys. Really looking forward to the annual. But a little shopping and work ahead. Kind regards,

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Put a new starter motor on.
I picked it up at 11.30,got home and started at about 12.00 and finished at about 7.00. Fiddly job on the 2.5,s but easier on mine as it has a two inch body lift so there's more room through the offside wheel arch. Startling difference in starting almost explodes into life the starter sounds so much stronger. Sitting down now with a beer and waiting for chips and pizza in the oven to be done.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!^^^ well done jmc glad you got your 2,5 sorted
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Fitted my +2 springs gained an inch instead of 2 but never mind looking for coil spacers now.
The modest lift she has now with the front wound up as well now means my 33s don't catch so happy enough for now. Also removed the rear anti roll bar for more articulation and made the spring swap a peace of cake
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I need help I can seem to post on half these posts. I have a 97 2.5tdi sport I need parts for it I remember a guy from the east of England near Dartmouth who scrapped frontys, I need a fuel primer pump, big pipe leading to ECG CAN ANY ONE HELP

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!With a charged battery on the way to the gas-station for getting a new one. Engine died half the way. Pushed the truck in the sidewalk. Went home by feet.
Got a small jerry can and feeded the truck with some liters. Started, but went off again. By trying tostart again and keep it running, the battery weakened more and more. Went home again. Got the wife's truck, stopped at mine to get out the old battery. Got a new one at the gas-station and another filling for the jerrycan. Went back to Grünstreifen. With new battery and now 20 Liters in the tank, it started well. Did a larger test-drive, sadly with the experience of a suddenly dying engine once in a while so I left her at the garage as I have no time to sort it out... Thinking of some drop of water in the fuel system as the tank has been quite empty  Or a rottened cable somewhere, because the truck started fine again after being pushed to the side over a stone e.g.! What a day.... Kind regards,

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Fitted the hilux snorkel today theres a fair gap between then the body of the snorkel and the wing so I'm gonna obtain some black/gray polystyrene and cut it to shape to fill in the gap bit of a bodge I know but hay ho it all adds charm.
You can probably see in the pic I also had to massage the wing a bit at the top to get the top of the snorkel where I wanted it You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Mot time, 12 months ticket with only 4 advisories on brake pipes.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!
I used a tube of black silicon sealant to fill in the gap when I did the snorkel on Truck some four years ago. Still going strong now. You might want to re-visit the vent at the top, should be a kick in the end of the down pipe where the top section fits to the down pipe. This brings top of vent level and the grill sloping back under it to stop the rain getting in, also allows you to rotate the vent around so it doesn't scoop rain up when driving in heavy rain. There's also a gert big metal washer thing that fits in the top section to direct any incoming rain away from the down tube and out through the vents that are moulded into end of the pipe. As you have it now your running a risk of filling the air filter from rain that's more than likely to get in when it's parked up never mind the stuff you'll scoop up when driving. Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!The sparewheel cover on the Mrs' truck has rotted away - only seven years old...
Replaced it today and fitted reflective adhesives as before for more security and did a little paintwork with PlastDip. ![]() This is a logo of our favourite red vine from Sardinia: Cenere. BTW The other truck has got a new crankshaft sensor. Kind regards,

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Sent her to the breakers today.
If anyone in the northwest needs any bits she will be laying in state at Atlas Salvage .Jackson St .St Helens . Sad day, off to drown my sorrows .....hic. What surprised me really was the fact that after nearly a year without starting put on a good battery and she fired into life.. She did throw a wobbler though, drove to the ramps of the truck then flatly refused to rev up she didn't want to go . Veni Vidi Lychee I came I saw I ate fruit
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Truck...
Nothing apart from look at it with a frown as it sit's in the naughty corner of the yard awaiting the 'spanners'.... Have to admit, these things go sooooo much better when the engine oil stays in the engine and not spread all down the chassis as in this case. Twas quite happily chugging home from work a couple of weeks ago, steady 60(ish) temp where it should be, oil pressure where it should be and no abnormal rattles (ignoring the fact it's got a 3.1 lump in there and they rattle the same as the 2. ![]() Pulled over for a quick look which confirmed the need for recovery in about 2 seconds flat... 4 hours later RAC recovery rocks up having come all the way from Guildford to recover Truck about 12 miles to home.... I'll have a good look at it to see what's given up over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully nothing a good spannering won't put right. O-No... Replaced the cam belt and water pump this morning, thought I really should get round to it as I hadn't change either since getting it about 4 1/2 years ago. Now rapidly heading towards 110k... Changed the front pads. Having now found out why I needed to change the front pads Tuesday evening will be spent replacing the N/S front calliper with a new one!
