time to sell or keep it.Hi guys.
bought my fronty 10 months ago. 1994 2l sport. It did not come with service history, but reciepts for work that previous ownwer had done, timing belt renewed, new cat. Since then, i have paid out, fuel leak from petrol tank, new bushes on the back, brakes unsiezed new pads and shoes, brakes master cylinder overhauled. new belts, heater matrix tomorrow. new box on exhaust. 2 new tyres ( normal wear an tear i know.) i have now paid on repairs and service, to what i paid for my truck, around 800 quid, it now has full MOT and 5 months tax. what else could go wrong, or do i try and sell it. and maybe get another fronty. or change me truck. i spent the money because i want to keep it, I LOVEIT. but cant keep pouring the amount of money in that i have. sean
I think you can bypass the heater matrix and fit a 12v ceramic heater as a temp measure.
Smiffy and Nitromotor can advise on getting at the matrix the have both done it. Sure they will post soon. You aint changing to another motor Ste

No mate, only a fronty for me, if i change, im upgrading. but thanks for the advice drift. i would rather fit a new heater matrix and have done with it. i work 6 days a week. and time to do these things is impossible. but i have a good mechanic, does all my work. and is very reasonabe. and if its a big job like this, so close to Christmas, he lets me pay weekly. I think i just get down hearted, when i have to cab home, knowing my truck is sick, and wont be ready till tomorrow all being well, strange feeling looking out the window and its not there. sean
If your getting the work done, then keep it
You wont get the money back so enjoy the car. I get fed up sometimes, but Ive put so much effort in the car, and mine does get abused a faire bit so its expected to moan and complain a wee bit But theses are old cars now and need a bit of tlc. Anyone who buys any old 4x4 should expect higher maintance bills, its the nature of the beast. I bet it runs great after this Ste

it runs great, i know i will have to spend a few quid on her. the best things in life come at a price, and i know i will not get another truck that drives, or handles, or has the comfort of a fronty. and if i can do London to Sunderland, 600 miles in a turn around trip and get out of the car at the end of it, as though i been for a pint of milk at local shops. then she was made for me. sean
well im thinking about geting rid of my calibra and geting a sport, but if i do i will put a redtop in to it
flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
calibra unit in a fronty sport anyone
Andy,
Sounds like a good idea to me Redtop in a sport would be nice... specially with all the extra mods available for a redtop. Sean, Nah, don't get rid of it, better the devil you know! If you fix those few things that do go wrong you know that you still have a reliable vehicle... and you know it better than anything new you will get because you've gotten use to it. Good luck either way you go. Si www.4x4search.org - your 4x4 search engine. 100% human submitted and edited!
then again i have aredtop in mine so i might look for a sport, as the engine in mine is at its peak at the moment
flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I just spent £700 on mine for new rad and head gasket
Not to mentin the new bushes last month pluss having the tickover control valve claned out And it will need new ball joints for the MOT in March I swaped her for my old Discovery and I will never look back Keep the car as you have spent the money to make it reliable. You know the problems and can fix them What happens, happens. What doesn't happen is not meant to

She aint going knowhere. i am keeping, think at times you get down hearted, then think things through.. always said, as long as you look after your lump, anything outside can be fixed or replaced. sean
When we Northeners get down South for a meet you will be glad you kept it

time to worry is when the southerners go north
Sure you can! we northerners can watch those sotherners shiver and complain about the cold LOL
glad you're keeping her. i do alot of my own work, so it costs less in cash, but more in free time. i feel like i spend all my free time working on either mine or the missus's truck. Matt 2.8TDI Sport. - 3" lift, 31" Recip Trials, Roof Rack, High Lift, Winch.
Buying a second-hand car is always like buying some one ells problems.
Some times you get lucky, other times it can sting. Reading about your plight I have sympathy for you that it has cost more than you anticipated, however for all the work you have done including the purchase price of the car only comes to 800 quid, and you have already had 10 months use out of it, then it still sounds a bargain with a full ticket and a bit of rent in the window to boot. Any way what I really wanted to say is Did someone mention a dash out job? Its not that bad to do at all, biggest hurdle is the motivation to get started The above photos are of my old A series 2.2 Diamond a few years ago during the dash out job to weld the bulkhead up. http://www.crag-uk.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The redtop is the 16v C20XE enginge that was put in the hot hatches Astras, Cavs ect, easy to fit and quiet powerful. Ste
