Bio diesel 2500l rule ?

Postby Muddydog on Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:45 pm

Hi All.
Just talking to a L/R friend who has been running his Defender 130 on a 60% diesel 40% veg oil for some months now, with no noticable side effects etc. Has anyone here tried it ? I am interested in trying it in my 2.5 vm engined fronty, has anyone any feed back ? Found the link below of interest.

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/

interested in your feedback chaps !

Regards

The Muddydog :P

So I'll ask the same question already asked..

What MODS have been done to run these vehicles on Veggie Oil (to buy NEW veggie oil from the shops basically, not used stuff)

If I wanted to just pour in 20 litres of veggie oil in to my 3/4 full diesel tank would that work?

This has been covered here lots Im sure.

I for one wouldnt use it as it has no proven track record with different engines, there is no diffinitive data available.

But in theis weather without a preheater or twin tanks you will have starting problems.

And Mr sludge will get you

I have been running olive oil for years (inclusive of other additives) it has been problem free, and there is evidence to suggest that it is the best stuff to use.
See my thread on the subject!

all i'll say is 50/50 works fine in 2.3's but don't use addertives as they react with the vegoil!! sadly mine has not been out for a few months so will have to use highgrade diesel to clean her out once i get it fixed before i go back to 50/50, be worth using a tank of the good stuff in every 4th tank to flush the system!!

Don't worry Drifty, I'm only considering it as a Summer thing and only if I'm likely to be doing long trips as an alternative to topping off the tank sort of thing.

I couldn't see myself using it all the time, and certainly not all year round.

And I really don't think I could be bothered running twin tanks etc. Besides, don't really think I've got anywhere else to PUT another tank..

IVE BEEN DOING IT FOR ABOUT 2 YRS EITH NO MODS, I DO IN THE WINTER TEND TO PUT A BIT MORE REGULAR DIESEL IN (SAY £20 EVERY FEEW WEEKS)

HAVE NOTICED THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A BIT MORE SLUGGISH ON THOSE VERRRY COLD MORNINGS TO BE HONEST AND IM NOT CONVINCED THAT THE MPG IS QUITE AS GOOD AS REGULAR DIESEL.

NO OTHER PROBLEMS TO BE HONEST THOUGH

Please refrain from typing in capitals ....it is seen as shouting ..and therefore quite rude..
