How will the group sizes be managed and coordinated so as to have minimum impact on the lanes covering the plains?
Would like to draw attention the the glass code of conduct for any FOG members attending.
Also the plains has some very specific bylaws owing to vast parts being MOD training grounds, also ther is an area that is protected for scientific study (Site of Special Scientific Interest) this has fines upto 20 grand

Although the aim is to raise cash for Martin I would prefer this day to stay managable. I would prefer group sizes to stay at no more than four vehicles. At this time we don't even have a firm date, but when we do the next level of planning, ie group sizes etc will be sorted. I don't intend on being party to any misuse of lanes or unecessary mud flinging, I think most of you know my tree hugging stance :wink: , if that is what people want then a day down Baldhu may be better. Any advice on trip planning is greatly received and the reason that Ian from the other 4x4 site has been asked to get involved is because he knows the ins and outs of the plains, so hopefully we will get it right.

Ian (woodsie) whom I approached in the first instance lives virtually on the plains.
He is finding out which routes are open and which aren't, he is in contact with the Range wardens trying to sort this for us.
If we have three capable leaders (Woodsie, surfenstein and sledge.....all from the Surf Forum and all having lead expeditions for that forum recently) we can cope with probably 15 others. Woodsie is happy to take six in a group.
We could then have easy, experienced and an "OTT" group.
Its not in Woodsies interest to cause trouble on his doorstep, his aim is to promote sensible use of the plains and the facilities available to all.
He has pointed out that misuse of the areas or going off-piste can/will result in prosecution and probably crushing of your vehicle. :naught:
This is being done properly. :wink:

To quote from Mr Woodsie;

The plain is miltary , it has some ranges open at weekends and then you can drive reconised byways only as there is unexploded ordinance . Alot of of it is gravel with some mud ,and a good beginer area as you can aviod some of the major hazards .

It can be a good day out and done with a standard surf .........

do not enter any area if there is a red flag flying

If you get caught off the byways or playing off piste the range wardens will fine you and can conficate and crush your truck.

There are alot of byways just off the plain aswell that made it intresting

Last warning Do not go off roading alone

Hope this alays any fears :lol:

Hi John, Jim here, I have no worries over Ian's group leading skills and am very grateful that he is helping us out. He knows the plains as you say and how he wants to play things is fine by me. Any word on a date yet and more importantly have you sorted any muds yet :lol:

If you look up a few posts I did say about keeping groups to 4 vehicles. When we have a confirmed date all the other ins and outs will be sorted. If there is to be 3 leaders the best thing to do is cap vehicle numbers to 12 including group leaders.

Ok, the 18th October is a go and including leaders there will be a max of 12 vehicles. So if I have this right we are after 2 more vehicles to make the 12 so get your names down quick people.

just 1 space left if PP is driving, Jim :lol:
but no harm in recruiting some reserves

Message received from Woodzie today;

Right 18th looks good as the firing weekend is the 6&7th .
More than 6 is too many but smaller groups are better and mixed ability will plan the routes then so all 3 groups follow a set route with the same terrain ........also if one group gets int problems the others are close enough to help out.......

There have been a few tro's on some of the more exciting routes but we can still string a good day with very little tarmac

Ok then, Sir Doris is on the list and as John has said if Angie is driving that is our 12. Any chance of sticking up a full list John as you know the names of the surf boys. Looking forward to this :dance:
