I could be tempted, the December dates almost certainly.
It's actually closer to me than the SE woods.

The site looks pretty flat and the reviews are that it gets pretty muddy in places...mixed reviews though, some not that impressed,
From looking at the sat images it looks like it would be a great MX or comp safari venue...not so sure about 4x4 non speed offroading though...

Came across this which was a bit disturbing though, from
http://www.mud-club.com/index.php?topic=82992.0

I quote...
Thefts of vehicles from Whaddon 4x4 pay and play.

Hi people, this is just a quick thread on behalf of the Aylesbury Vale CID.

It has recently been brought to the attention of Aylesbury Police that James Lowe, son of Doug Lowe who provides his farm Barnhill farm for pay and play days has been stealing and crushing peoples off roaders for cash. If anyone has had their off roader go missing from Barnhill farm could they please phone PC Gareth morley at Aylesbury police station on 01296 396135 or 07814 485476.

James Lowe is in court this Wednesday where he is being prosecuted for 10 missing vehicles from May of last year. Please if anyone has had a vehicle go missing would you phone up with your vehicle details and get these added to the growing list of stolen vehicles.

Please feel free to copy and paste this to any other off road forums you know of as this is obviously a very serious issue that has been going on for some time.

I dont know what the truth is in this, but I thought it worth making you guys aware of what has been alleged to have been happening up there...

Hmmmm a quick google and some research shows people who have been recently i.e from then on have been happy with the place although are all cautious about leaving wagons there so... In the event that anyone is unable to drive their fronty home they can leave it on my driveway if needs be i live 5 minutes round the corner so can tow you back and you will have somewhere a bit safer to leave it untill you get it sorted.

Other reviews on the site seem positive but caution is advised as its easy to get stuck, but that could be said for anywhere i guess! If we organise ourselves then we can make sure no one gets stuck and someone is available to do the tow outs!

I say we press ahead :D

Folks,

Whaddon site is a bit old site, with plenty for everyone, some flat some more iutted, boggy areas dont enter if you have no way of winching out. Some very wet and deep areas.

Just depends what you want to do, what allegedly happened with vehicles up there has nothing to do with you having a good day on the site.

You pay you money and you drive where you want.

However i went there a couple of weeks ago with my local 4x4 club, northants4x4.com and i have had to remove and clean alternator and have got to strip rear drums as i have lost the use of the handbrake, probably full of silt.

So if its your everyday car make sure you give it a damn good clean after, the silt there gets everywhere.

Sorry guys, didnt mean to pee on your bonfire, so to speak by posting above, I was just googling reviews to see what the site was like and came across the thing about car thefts, so thought it prudent to post it up incase it was still an issue. The fact that they are still operating after this time would tend to suggest this was an isolated incident I would think, and there are always two sides to every story.

Pete, you take your truck through there again and I might have to give you a poke in the eye to make you see sense!! Seriously peeps, Whaddon is a truck eater unless you just pussy around watching the headcases play hero.

It's a steep descent into the site, across a stream with a loose base then up the steep side of the field opposite. Once you make it this far there are some easy tracks linking the play areas. This time of year you will need mud tyres to get this far. LWB's with out a lift can expect to belly out regularly, what you have to bare in mind is this site is regularly abused by Mega tyred (33's, 35's and 37's), lifted green ovals that take great delight in spinning holes in ruts, wollowing in mud holes and generally ripping the site up, as is their right.

If your truck is just for play sites fine but if you want to keep it reliable and in road useable condition think twice about going to Whaddon!

Just my opinion, but an opinion based on experience of the place.

Regards

Stuart

Sounds like a good bit of advice there FatBaz...certainly to stay out of the deeper stuff...

Realistically I wont be able to make it Geeks...time/finances/need the truck being the main factors, and trailering up the BGL just adds massively to the £££ sadly.
