Also, By the looks of things we will need another leader if the numbers stay similar (MAX 5 to a group, preferably 4) so volunteers required with laning and lead experience. If you have Memory Map I can send an overlay or if not I can print the maps off

I can't make the 21st as I have a golf tournament so will have to miss this one.

Are there any plans to do some lanning during the evenings over the summer months?

Cheers
Danny

there deffo will be mate rest assured

Re: North Herts Green Laning Trip 21st March 2010

Postby bobbinsjob on Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:30 am

Well I did a recce on all of the lanes today, starting at a similar time perhaps a little earlier than we will start on 21st and reached the lunchtime pub at 1145. given that i know the lanes round here like the back of my hand, we will probably take about 30 mins to an hour more to finish the first half and be at the pub for around 1230 - 1245, ideal.

I finished the route at about 3pm which included an hour for lunch, (as the barmaid was soooooo nice hehehe)

The important stuff. Of all the lanes i had planned for the route, only one had been downgraded to a restricted byway so I have omitted that one. However, amazingly, there were 2 RUPPs that I came a cropper in a couple of years ago as they had been gated and downgraded under NERC but guess what, the gates have been removed and new signs put up stating that they are now Public Byways   8) Never heard of RUPPs being upgraded to BOATs before. They have bee added to the route and they are quite nice lanes.

During the whole route I only used 4wd for about 100yds and i think i was being over cautious then  AT tyres will be fine unless we have a monsoon ib the next 2 weeks infact some of the lanes were dusty

there are only 2 scratchy sections, the first just being very light indeed, the last one a bit heavier but nothing a bit of t-cut wont sort.

The second half of the trip takes in most of the wet roads (fords) of east Herts apart from Violets Lane (half mile of 3ft water) and Standon Ford as it is way too deep and technical for a standard fronty, you really need a snorkel and nerves of steel, (many a Landy has died there) The ones on our route are quite tame but entertaining non the less.

All the lanes are doable with a stock fronty but there are some challenging technical section to get the grey matter working and the snippet valve twitching lol.

We stopped at the Brown Bear Pun in Braughing for Lunch. Its a lovely place, very friendly, great food, reasonable prices. And i spoke to the landlady and she is more than happy to have 10 muddy trucks in the carpark and can cater for us when we arrive. They do a full Sunday roast or you can choose off the rest of the menu.

We will have to book tables in advance tho as it gets busy for sunday lunch.

Below is a menu for the pub, so if you would like to eat at the pub at the halfway stage then PM me asap with your seating requirements and meal of choice and I will book the tables. Sunday Roast is £6.50 btw.

Still looking forward to Sunday, but I could also be looking for a copilot (as it looks like mine's gotta drop out) if any one is interested in coming but doesn't want to bring their own car.

P.S. Would really help if you know how to read OS 1:25 maps

Psychic abilities would be a huge plus point too, so copilot can read a map from a distance of 40+ miles....

....unless of course Paul is gonna actually remember to bring the maps this time!

HELP !!!!!
Does anyone who is coming on Sunday, have any spare autolock circlips they can bring?
Still not had time to fix my 4wd, so I'll be attempting it in Sainsbury's car park before we set off tomorrow. , but as I have not even taken the cap of the lockers yet I have no idea if the original clip has just popped off, has snapped, (or hopefully not knackered) so I want to be on the safe side.
Better still does anyone have an only autolock the can bring and I can swap as my spare set are with Greg for welding up

One final bump too.

There is still room if anyone wants to join us :D
