Anything needed to prepare the Frontera

Is there anything I should be thinking about to get ready for offroading?

Normal stuff is being sorted, brakes & service done. Cambelt, tensioner & rollers were going to be done today-until the thunder came along. Hopefully tomorrow will see that out of the way.

Not had a crawl around underneath, but I imagine there are a few grease points.

Any essentials i need to know

First Off,, this should be in the Off-Road section!
Mods please!!

A good can of WD40 , Clothes you don't mind getting Dirty in !
umm.... Tow Ropes for attachment Before you go into the Mud!
(Digging under Mud to find a Tow Point seems to embarrass some people!)

From the rear, look under the car and have a look for the lowest points; transfer box, rear diff, sump etc. When you're "offroading", and approaching an obstacle (rocks for eg), recall the image of the underside and plan your path to maximise ground clearance. (I'll go to the right of that rock cus it might hit the diff)

When negotiating obstacles, you have to concider the rear wheels as well as the fronts.

Would attaching a 90 rubber pipe to the exhuast to stop water entering the engine when fording be considerd gay?

I was thinking about that article you posted and how stalling while fording usually means a flooded engine. Now thoes things lorries and tractors have to stop rain flooding the engine while they're off. Could something like that be made for a frontera exhuast?

If not, this is more radical. How about one of thoes mushroom type gizmo's ive heard talk about on the axels to stop water entering them?
