FOG Annual Meet-2012 ***REVIEW THREAD***

Re: FOG Annual Meet-2012 ***REVIEW THREAD***

Postby snapper on Mon May 07, 2012 11:07 pm

Well, what can I say? First annual I've managed to get to in the 2 years I've been lurking around here... Great fun, even the boss Angie enjoyed the laning and getting bounced around the course, truck even survived it too, well almost if you count the plug things on the towbar getting mashed again when I did a bit of ploughing... Always a bonus when the mobile shed needs dragging home after

Anyway thanks go out to Ste & Jay cos without their hard work and organsing it wouldnt have happenend. Rob & Audra for putting the BBQ and raffle together. Pete (loneranger) for doing the recovery bit following the classic mud/tyre traction fail a mere 100 mtrs into the first lane  At least I got to test the new strop and shackes  And thanks to Stu for sorting the lanes, it was a good day out, despite all the locks on the gates... Shame on the Council.

Plans already in motion for the next annual as far as trucks go, I might (note, might) even get some more suitable tyres for it rather than a set of ATR's fast headed to being slicks...
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Comments on 'O-no' the truck may be left here

Well 1stly can I say thank you to every1 who helped put this weekend together!! and to Rob and co for the grub, it has been a really great weekend!! :)

I was, and still am amazed that I only got stuck 3 times....total, and thats only due to bottoming out...but wait it gets better....I towed 3 A series fronteras  , 1st was JEOH when he broke down in the lane, then Jim (wilberforce) in his 2.8 lwb (twice) and then another A...but cant remember who it was :( - Yep as a dti owner....I have my smug winning face on...
Image

Oh and thank you all for your comments on how my truck sounds too....some say it sounds like a tractor...some say it sounds like a V8....but all I know is it sounds like a beast  either way Im happy what ever it sounds like lol.

I didnt get many pics....just a few on my phone, so here we go
Chillaxing around the fire...
Image

Then some down hill axle twister vanity...
Image
Image

And this is where it all went wrong for me....I listened to fudge and tryed the troth, full of slushy mud at the bottom, ended up stopping about 2/3's of the way thru it and only just managed to get myself out...
Image
Image
Image
Image

and finerly what my truck looked like this morning when I woke up...
Image

Oh and note to self....close the window when going thru wet stuff
Image

One last thing....well done to Neal for winning the piston (I can only assume it was most shiney truck award :P) and well done Jim for best stuck!!! But I do feel that I was a close second when I nearly rolled it into the lake....and I managed to get stuck going down hill....twice lol - it seems gravity dosent have the same affect on my truck as every1 elses lol

A big Thank you.
We have reached our home without any further problems. Strap still in place, fueltank too.

Wonderful weekend, we had still lots of fun, made new friendships and surely some mistakes, too... I think at some point I lost oversight who helped to get the car fixed! Looking at the pics, I am sure to have missed the one or the other with a special 'thank you'!
Alone, we surely would not be home yet!

Now going to bed, but before some pics...
No further comments needed. Should come a bit more often to the UK, and learn more lessons!!!

I have to add to the rest..

thanks for a great weekend..who do I start with?..
well first has to be everyone who got this whole event to get on..you guys sometimes don't get the praise you deserve, you all kept praising us for coming..you built it we came..
Number 2..Mr Drift...for being my taxi driver..since i couldn't legally bring mine (cheers MOT man)..fuel money still here and if you won't accept it again..i'll donate it to the cause
Number 3..Hipo (dan)..for giving me a seat both on the laning and the site.
Number 4..Audra and the Horses beast..for the BBQ..along with Jay and Jo's hospitality on sunday for the second BBQ.
Number 5..all the guys who arranged the laning, sorry your names escape me right now..
Number 6..Maria for the cake, awesome..and for putting up with Ian..i loved his stories on sunday night

but most important...all the FOG members who make this event what it is..what I thought might be a slightly miserable one (without my truck) turned out to be one, if not, the best..sorry if this embarraces a certain person, but I can understand why you were close to tears..and it wasn't Wi Aye Woo Woo's..or the Geordie Mojito's..you guys and girls mean a lot to me, these weekenders are for me my lads hollybobs..and i don't think i'm the only one

can't wait for the next one..just 12months to go

Hi Foggers, we are back home!
Our Internetmodem was dead. The mailman tried to deliever a new one, while we are at Avalanche ... HAHA!
Now we have the new modem - and surprise: It works!
Going into the internet with a surfstick/dongle is not the best thing. Sometimes the free wifi at McDonald is better ...

We want to say THANK YOU to all for this meeting.
I forgot lots of names but next time it will be better - if I get holiday.
We had a good time at the annual although Tami had to work for her newspaper.

PS: I burned my face at the top of the White Cliffs on monday.
