iOS6?

iOS6?

Postby igotababyfrontera on Sat Sep 29, 2012 7:16 am

Hi to all you iPhone users out there :D
Just a quick one, is iOS6 worth installing in an iPhone 4? I just had a quick nosey through the info on my phone and it looks like all the big updates are for the 4S and 5.
Generally what's your thoughts?
Cheers
Scott

As you said, all the really fun stuff is reserved for the higher-end models, although there's an assortment of under-the-hood improvements that owners of the 3GS and 4 get. Siri gets improved UK knowledge, and Facetime now works over mobile networks, not just wifi, but those aren't things that a 4 is allowed to do.
It shouldn't make any difference to you, performance wise, most apps will launch in about the same time, some quicker and some slower. Battery life might get a bit of a boost, too. Other than that, it's mostly housekeeping - mail gets a tweak, safari gets proper tabs, the lock screen gets a couple of extra options for incoming call handling, etc...

I've not bothered with it, yet. The one feature I really wanted was the DND (Do not disturb) because for somebody who works nights I don't want just anybody to be able to ring me at 10am trying to sell me stuff, but if my Mum rings at that time, there's a good reason for it - it's a feature that even my elderly Nokias had years ago, yet the iPhone only ever had on, or mute.
Unfortunately the kicker is, Apple and Google seem to have had a falling out. Youtube and Google Maps are gone, replaced by Apple's own offerings. There's a new YouTube app to download, but Google has no plans to do the same for it's maps currently, and Apple's take on things is woefully inaccurate. Google Maps also give you traffic speed sensor info, which is amazingly useful for a truck driver.

At the moment then, for me the cons outweigh the pros - so unless the maps improve, I'm staying on iOS 5.

Hmmm
Thanks for that, I did hear that the apple maps were a complete failure they said on the news about a week ago that they had misspelt places and completely missed places out completely like Solihull
Loosing google is bad as I actually like it
I actually have some thinking to do about it now

I am running iso6 on a iPhone 3GS and so far not had any probs.
It has improved my browsing as it seems to be a lot faster than before.
The battery life is still the about the same as before.

Well, speaking to a couple of my mrs mates yesterday and two of them have done it :(
The outlook isn't that good,
First one. Likes the changed keypad for dialling, hates the battery life as its much shorter, the maps are craap and mostly covered by cloud and gets hot :(
Second one. Doesn't like the new keypad, reckons the phone is slower generally(games take ages to load-angry birds) also gets hot while playing said games and advises to not update as its supposed to update not downgrade!
Needless to say he is not impressed.
Both these updates are on the 4S.
