Been a little bit bored at work tonight so i decided to have a search around the app store for my samsung galaxy. found and downloaded both MM tracker and the official Memory Map apps..both free the memory map come with a basemap that has limited zoomability and detail, and the MM tracker comes with no maps at all..
now question time..
to use the Memory Map app, do I have to have it also installed on the home PC to download the relevent map files to the sd card?..even if i don't want to create routes etc..also if I somehow managed to "aquire" some maps that are of the older file type is there anyway of converting them on the cheap?...ie free.
for the MM tracker, I think that i just use the said "aquired" maps without converting..surely it'snot that simpple?
also I don't understand the 25k,50k bits about the maps. does one have more detail or does it mean a bigger map?..therefore alot more card space..can these be cut down to cover just the area your in? for instance just the north of Wales rather than the whole of it..
edit* which one is the preffered choice of FOG and why? keep it simple for me please..

Not quite the same bit of kit but I dug an old HP ipaq hx4700 out the cupboard (it'd been there somewhat dead for the last 2 years) for the annual, a couple of new batteries and it even worked.
I then downloaded mm onto the pc from the mm site and transfered it from that installation onto the 4700. As for maps, once I got the thing talking to the lappy it was a simple task of loading the map files straight onto it. It's now running quite happily with the maps on it (4Gb CF Card) and blue toothing to the old tomtom gps unit. Out of interest, anyone know whats the biggest CF card these things can talk to?
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ) Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Memory map allows you to use pinch zoom. Tracker doesnt. Only reason i use it more.
