Been going to buy a DVD recorder for, erm, a while now, but always get confused by the choices. Just want something to be able to record progs on timer and play DVDs. Want something under £100 (pref closer to £50 ) but looking on Amazon at the cheaper ones, there seems to be a few hiccups with them after a few months. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good brand to go for thats a decent price? And please don't try to confuse me with talking about this Blueray thing, that's a step too far! (What is it anyway lol)

Sooooooo, I ended up buying an LG DVD recorder, but the first time I record something, I try to change channels and discover you can only record the channel you're watching! Is this perhaps, because the DVD thing contains the Freeview now, rather than the set top box I was using previously - and therefore, is there a way to hook up the old set top box and the DVD recorder, so that I can record one channel and watch another? I'm sure all you techy people will be able to help!

If your signal is weak though, an amplified splitter might be a better bet though, as splitting your aerial will attenuate the signal slightly.

It probably is weak, we couldn't get digital here on top of the hill for years after the people down the hill in the village could! I'll maybe go for the amp/splitter. Thanks again for your help guys
