Big files

Postby MrTom on Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:17 pm

Me and Drift were having problems swapping large files on line the other week and had to settle on burning to disc and posting....
But I found:

http://www.wetransfer.com

It's free and you send up to 2gb at a time on line    perfect for swapping your 4x4 content

HI.
I use dropbox, you can set up a free account then just copy what you want into it.

To share, just add a folder an give details of the other persons dropbox account. Drag files into the folder and they will miraculusy appear on the othe persons PC.

Can join here ( short link )

We have to use Yousendit at work for HMRC crap due to the file sizes.

How big were the files?

Drop box sounds good.
I like we transfer because you don't even need to sign up  takes about 15 seconds to ad your files ( up to 2gb worth) and the sit back whilst it uploads the (2gb does take a while mind) all you need is the recipients e-mail address

i use bulletproof ftp server and client so you can send files as large as you like, but its not free, there is a few ftp programs out there though, the one ive tested and found to be good and easy to use is filezilla, here is the link to both server and client http://filezilla-project.org/

Cool beans. Is it any quicker if you pay for it? like I said 2GB takes an age but it is free so you can't complain. Me and Colley have used wetransfer a few times to send each other pictures and vids of our last laneing trip. Very useful 8)

2GB will take ages due to your internet provider

One other thing to try is just use MSN file transfer BUT use winrar to compress all the files BUT split them so its say 10 15MB files instead of one 150MB file that way if the net disconnects you havent wasted a few hours

I use this ... no file size limit ... free (ignore the adverts) and no sign up.

http://www.mailbigfile.com/

Just enter the respondants email address and he will get a notification email and all he has to is hit the link to download the file. I use it all the time at work to send mega huge CAD drawings.

Hi,

Just a couple of points.. All good methods of transfer, though bare in mind :-

These are public servers/services. Do not use them to transfer sensitive/personal information unless you encrypt it first or are happy to have it "in the public domain" / open to all. Just because you have to login does not secure the data.
