Re: pc wont startYou can return stuff out of warranty if its fails before it should, there is a durability clause in the sale of goods act, for instance Tesco will supply a new TV or washing machine even out of warranty for a couple of years.
http://whatconsumer.co.uk/how-long-should-it-last/ Im not sure how long a PC "should last" but it might be worth looking into, just over a year is not very long before the MB fails. Its the wifes until it breaks down.
Re: pc wont startjust spoke to ste, his tower is 18 months old, and hi psu is an atx-250pa

Re: pc wont startCaution!! Watch you dont accidently drop it down the stairs as your moving it about. As that would involve a claim on the home insurance.
Re: pc wont startdrift
i think you will find that all electricals now have a 2 year warrentee by eu ruling so i would say see if you can find any more info on that. as then if it is the case take it back and demand a replacement, and if you havefound out all the rules etc, start quoting them, and see them get confused CARTREK

Re: pc wont startWell just a bit of an update, I dont want to rip its guts out while its still starting, so watch this space.
It does start 9 out of 10 first time but just takes 20 minutes before the screen kicks in but pc makes the correct start up noises through the speakers, windows tune and the like, handy enough a new GC update was available this evening, we will see what happens at next start up. Thanks for all your replies and I will update as we go Ste

Re: pc wont startSte give Dixons customer service a call on 0844 561 0000 option 4. The retailer can be responsible for the unit up to 5 years under EU law. The Packard Bells are notourious for failing mainboard's and psu's. It certainly sounds like a power fault or GPU fault. The likely hood is they will either offer a value towards a replacement or arrange a repair and yes stamp your feet, kick scream etc but keep calm and stay polite.
Are you sure the computer is out of warranty i have been a member on here for just over a year and can remember you buying it Yes i work for PC World but dont tell everyone
Re: pc wont startInteresting, thing is I cant find the receipt

Re: pc wont startif its runing, do a copy of the hard drive to an external drive. use macrium reflect if you need a free hdd clone prog. also copy all important files, just in case. If you need a pc i have a couple spare in the attic, not sure where you are but your welcom to borrow one.
Re: pc wont startGet any important stuff of it over the weekend. I know you ain't got long before your warrenty expires. Repairs are covered for 90 days and if the problem isn't resolved within 28 days you are entitled to a replacement unit:D
