Interesting FF4 bug??

Interesting FF4 bug??

Postby Wilberforce on Mon Apr 04, 2011 8:40 am

Wotcher folks,
I'm wondering if anyone besides me has noticed anything odd with the FOG Board Index page after upgrading to Firefox v4?
It's not a bug as such, just that the Index page seems to display now with a considerably larger font than the rest of the board, which is exactly as it used to be. I've done a complete clean of cookies, history, cache & site preferences and restarted FF so I'm a little perplexed now.
It doesn't affect anything working, just looks a little odd, and I'm wondering if it just me or what...

Ahh, so at least it's not just me then...
A little odd but as you say, it doesn't affect the workings of the site. I'm just curious, as this only affects FOG, other PHPBB3 fora I use don't generate the same issue.

I use google chrome and the board index is larger than all the rest. I thought it was set like that so you could find the the sub forums easier lol

I use Google Chrome too, and the font is larger on the Index page. But...always been like that the whole time I've been a member. I just thought it was normal.

There's something somewhere deep in the stylesheets that's causing it, but I'm not sure where exactly. It's on my todo list, but as it's not a showstopper, I've not really put it high on the priority list I'm afraid :)

Jay,
If it's a style gremlin, it does make sense. FF4 handles that thing differently now, and obviously every forum's layout is different.
As you say, not a showstopper so I'd not worry about it too much TBH...

Ok - so it seems it's not a FOG issue ... it's actually a chrome issue - which is why it's affecting FF4 and Google Chrome.

To correct it in FF4 try this fix

Didn't work for me, but what I did to correct it was

Click on "FireFox" in the top left hand corner
Went to options > options
Click on Content
Change the default font to ariel and the pitch to 12pt not 16pt

Only problem is now other sites look too small. :x

Paul: Yeah, it's because tinkering with display or font sizes to get our index looking right then makes everything else too small, that I've not bothered.

Jay: I do still find it odd that FOG is the only one of assorted PHPBB based fora that I use which has this glitch. I've got used to it now though, but cheers for doing the detective work, and the fix.
